Would there be anyone interested in this special
one time Paul Gauguin Cruise?
Realize we will have to wait until the pricing comes out, but sure looks interesting.

I looked at the itinerary, researched the eclipse, and researched Pitcairn Island. Seven sea days, plus way too long in Pitcairn Island, for a 42 second (IIRC) total eclipse just didn't seem worth it to me. It would be a once in a lifetime cruise if I didn't have higher priorities. If you go, would be very interested in your impressions.

At this moment it is just a dream.
Good point about the sea days.
For the PG that might be a few to many.
Not much at Pitcairn Island?

Jim, check out this site: http://www.lareau.org/pitc.html Island is so small, usually when cruise ships arrive, instead of the pax coming ashore, all the islanders go out with their wares to the ship.

We'd be interested, or at least I'm intrigued by it - Pitcairn has always been on my list of places that I'd love to visit. My granddad had the incredible fortune to communicate with some of the residents many years ago via Ham radio (and they were kind enough to send him stamps for my collection).
After listening to Dr Eddowes lecture about Pitcairn on the PG, I'm even more intrigued. Since there are two days there, so I would think that passengers would have to be allowed to visit the island. I've read the site Marc mentions - they are trying to find a way to keep the island viable by making honey - imagine the marketing of honey from Pitcairn Island!?!
And, if you have a serious interest in astronomy, there will be some pretty heavy hitters from that field on board (that's how I'll convince Gordon to go, haha!! that and the yummy PG food)...
So, interested? Yes... and maybe even semi-seriously. From $4945 including air is not a bad deal (even with the sea days).

We've been to Pitcarin (or rather Pitcarin came to us - they came onboard our ship).
I'm not sure how the ship might take passengers to the island. It is really a rock sticking out of the ocean. There is no real harbor and tendering would be very difficult. The island is not equipped for tourism, even for a few hundred.
Perhaps we can find out more. It is definitely a destination for people who want something exotic!
