OK, I am finally going to come out of my
"lurk mode" and pose a comment.

I understand Radisson is going to make some
"changes"--one of which could be a possible
logo change.

While I do have more things in life to worry
about than the logo of my favorite cruise line,
I can't help but wonder why they would have to change it at all. If you look up www.Regenthotels.com, you will see what I bet
would be the future cruise line logo---just the letter R with a circle--not very imaginative.

I like the current logo now. I think it is a
very classy logo. It sort of looks like a harp-like instrument, it sort of looks like 2 swans on each side, at the bottom it sort of looks like a little tie, and after a few drinks when you look at the logo it sways back and forth.

I wonder if our moderator Karen might be willing to have a poll to see if everyone likes the
current logo, wants a change, or doesn't care?

Randy - you can post a poll - very easy to do

Just click the button and follow the prompts. You can't edit it after you finalize it, but you can review it before you save it.

Randy, welcome out of lurkdom! We all do it eventually. This gave me the chance to post my first ever poll! (Marc seems to be our expert) Have no idea how that unsmiley face got in it! For what it's worth, Captain Dag is disappointed to see the lute go! Editing to say, I just googled lute and that is not what we have now, perhaps it is a lyre.

Captain Romeo said the Radisson logo is a Lyre. My cruising buddy Peggy said her sorority logo was the same.

Suzie, I almost pledged Alpha Chi Omega back in the 60's!

Not that this is an official poll but so many of us on the SA trip have discussed this. I call the current logo a harp(?) and everyone LOVES it and wants it to remain!!

When talking to Ken Watson about the logo, I called it a lyre and he corrected me to call it a harp. I prefer to call it a lyre and keep it. It is the symbol of Rad to me and I love it.

It is also a lyre to me. What a waste of money to change the logo AFTER you have redone hallway carpeting with the lyre on it. The new hallway carpeting looks great, although it makes the carpeting in the rooms sort of fade out.

Who the hell is making some of these decisions.

I heard rumors of this in December, I even wrote on the back of the comment card to keep the logo. Ah well!?!

Ardis, You're right - it's most definitely a lyre and not a harp.

I love the logo...why change it?

I thought I had heard somewhere that it was to call to mind "song of flower" in addition to looking like a lyre, it looks like a flower (eg petals open on the sides, pistles in the middle, leaves underneath).

Given what's been going on in that marketing department of thiers, I would not be surprised if they went ahead and "fix" what's not broken with the logo

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends ~~M. Angelou~~

I really hope they don't change it. It's so classy and an R would be so boring. What a waste to spend so much money on repainting, new carpeting, new china, new almost everything.

How about spending a little of that money on repeat cruisers instead?

They should invest that money in "soft goods" such as bedspreads, curtains and carpet on Navigator. I don't know about the other ships (since they are newer) but Navigator could benefit from a "face lift". Maybe they're planning to do it during its drydock?

Maria the Navigator is getting new beds in March, and I think a complete overhaul in Dec. during drydock..

You're right about the Song of Flower. I spoke with Rose Clark yesterday because I still haven't gotten my SSS letter and Ted got his ages ago. Anyway, she seems like a really nice person and not just a "yes, man". I told her that when I mentioned to Ted that RSSC was getting a new logo his first reaction was "But we have those nice SSS pins!!! We'll need new pins!!!" Just cracked me up.

Anyway, Rose said the logo was to represent a musical instrument (lyre, harp, pick one) and flower petals for Song of Flower. You'd think that they'd want a reminder of their first ship, their start in the cruise business, sort of a nostalgia thing.

I'm going to miss the old logo like everyone else but I guess we all now have collectors items.
