As some of you know, I keep hoping we are going to put together a group to Macchu Pichu and the Galapagos; I'm now aiming for 2009. Meanwhile, today I came across a NYT review of a program on the Galapagos Sunday night on the National Geographic channel. Galapagos Program By coincidence, there was a program on Macchu Pichu a few weeks ago that I have in my DVR, though I haven't watched it yet.

Eugene,
Gretchen and I are also interested in a Macchu Pichu and Galapagos trip. 2009 would be great. You can private mail me if you'd like. I've collected material from several companies that do this type of trip and would at least like to pick your brain a bit.

Two years ago we went to MAPI and the Galapagos. For the Galapagos part we went on the Celebrity Expedition. I did the MAPI portion with a local agent called Carlin Travel recommended by the Peruvian Consulate in Toronto. The arrangements were perfect.

We stated at a lovely Art Deco hotel in Lima called the Country Club, at the Monasterio in Cuzco and the Sanctuary at MAPI. At the Monasterio we had them pump oxygen into our room for an small additional sum and that gave us a wonderful night as well as the strength to enjoy our couple of days at MAPI. It was a wonderful trip as both portions were spectacular in a different way.

Got to watch this program yesterday.
Very interesting.
I was intersted in the part about how the islands were made and still are.
Also that Hawaii was and is built the same way.

Miriam:

My tour included stays at the Country Club in Lima and at the Monasterio in Cuzco. Both great choices - unfortunately we only had a "day trip" to MAPI. we flew in via helicopter. I understand they don't offer that option now. I really want to stay at the Sanctuary next time I go!
