Dan:
We still have three formal nights for our two weeks on Mariner. For your five weeks, sounds like you could have 7-9 formal nights. About half the other nights seen to be informal; maybe fewer.
Informal is coat, tie optional. Yes, many also wear a coat for casual nights. This time, I am going to cut back and just take tux, and two or three sports coats.

more than half the men wear just suits. You can cut back with just bringing suits.

I bring a nice suite, my last cruise was 6 weeks and I had a room problem in my luggage. A used the jacket and ties on informal nights which meant less laundry. Even on Crystal's world cruise there were a lot of men who never wore tux's.
Wish they would rents tux's. It would be a good business for them.

Yes....I agree.
some time ago I sailed from Hong Kong and got myself a great tux made for under 200 bucks.... but that was in 87..... (19 not 18...)
I am saliing out of Australia and prices there for clothes are steep......

Dan - you will feel comfortable on formal nights, I think, whether you choose a suit or a tux. Bring whichever pleases you as you'll have plenty of company.
I'm all in favor of less rather than more when it comes to luggage.
Gary usually takes a suit; on our New Year's cruise, he's bringing the tux instead. I guess I should tell him that, too, huh?
Cheers, Anne

There's something about getting all dressed up in a Tux for those special nights - go for it. Just bring less suits, different color ties and shirts - mix and match and you will save room in the luggage.

I agree with Todd - however, Tony has only taken dark suit for our cruises and it has worked just fine - for my 15 night cruise I will take about 7 dinner outfits and recycle them - I finally realized people forget what you wear!!!

I say Tux when you want: I bought a tux for my wedding two years ago, and I want my moneys worth, so I figure by dressing up I am getting my moneys worth.

Yes, and even with two black outfits, we might need different black shoes....
But, my Frank doesn't do the tux. Dark suit is just fine. And you can dry clean on board ship.

we only do the dark suit thing, i think a lovely tie, some gorgeous shirts with french cuffs make a killer look, plus gives me more room for shoes, shoes, shoes.

Dan: You know all the right things to say - I have no doubt you'll be handsome in either your tux or dark suit -
