If you are lucky enough to be cruising during the month, please list your cruise dates and ports. Maybe we will even be able to stalk you along your journey!

We were scheduled to go to Antarctica, Falklands and South Georgia Islands on the fancy new Scenic expedition ship, Scenic Eclipse, in December. We were notified a couple of weeks ago that the ship was not going to be ready in time sad We were already locked into expensive non-refundable airfare one way, and booked with points the other way. Although Scenic was going to reimburse our deposits, whether or not they, or the insurance company, was going to cover the airfare was iffy.

Anyway, after I finished crying waah I contacted Linda and she was able to work her magic and got us on a Silver Explorer cruise that actually had the same departure date and same itinerary!! Unbelievable that they had a spot this close to departure date! And it turned out to be a GREAT deal too! A couple of days shorter, so we will have to stay over in Buenos Aires to be able to use our saver point ticket for the return, but what a great deal! This is our first expedition cruise, so we are excited! Been to Antarctica on the Mariner back in 2011, but no landings, just cruising around.

Oh wow, Cindy! What a devastating blow, at least initially. That was such good luck that Linda found you an alternative. This s a fantastic journey, happy travels!

Cindy, I am on the Silver Explorer right now. It may not be new and fancy but a wonderful ship with incredible expedition teams. Years ago the Silver Explorer was the ONLY ship that landed on Elephant Island. It was perfect weather but lots of work for the ship to lay carpets all over the rocks to get people ashore. About three other ships were there at the exact same time and NONE of them even tried.

I have no idea what the Scenic ship and expedition team would have been like but feel sure you will have a great trip on the Silver Explorer. Plus you are going to South Georgia that is one of the most amazing places on the earth that I have been to personally.

Who knows this may have been good fortune almost meant to be with the air falling into place. Dry the tears and look forward to a fantastic adventure.

You are so right Ngaire! David and I said the exact same thing - this was just meant to be!! It was miraculous how it all worked out, and I truly believe it all worked out for the better! Believe me, no more tears being shed here!! We are really looking forward to it.

BTW, waiting for "boot" update!!

No problems with the boots.

However, they do seem to have a different supply now. Used to be all types from floral left over boots obviously left behind to standard boots. Now it looks like just two types for loan one style is wider than the other. So they may have less than before hence the emphasis on renting or bringing boots now. However it was no problem for any of us but possibly most did rent or bring boots.

If you are a standard size you should be fine but if you have small or very large feet you might should buy or rent.

Ngaire, as far as boots, I hate to ask this, but could you find out if they have any men’s size 13? George has big feet. He has some we can bring, but aside from me having to power wash them to get ranch gunk off, they take up a huge extra space in the suitcase, probably a whole suitcase. If we have to bring them, ok, but if we don’t it would be great.

I am a plain old size 7 so no worries for me.

I am using a size 13 on this cruise. Not sure how many of that size they have but over 6 cruises have always used the ship boots
