As I am almost finished studying to take my sleep boards next week, I thought I would post information about a very nice website and app for smart phones developed by the University of Michigan to help shift your internal clock to make jet lag much easier. I plan to use this for Kiwi in January. Let me know if anyone has questions but the website is pretty self explanatory: http://entrain.math.lsa.umich.edu/

Interesting. I may get this for George. I am pretty much one of those people who can stay awake or sleep anytime based on what is required of me. Comes from years of ob night call. But George is terrible about jet lag.

Kathy, you are very welcome. I hear you, Rachel. After years of critical care work I wake up instantly, but timed light therapy resets your internal clock so you are awake and hungry when you are supposed to be and sleepy at bedtime. They sell inexpensive but dorky blue blocking sunglasses and I even found a portable 10,000 lux light box for travel that is sub powered so you can use the same program to readjust quickly when you fly home. Don't think I'll be posting any pictures of Bert and I in those glasses. Say hi to George.

Our experience using it before Kiwi was that it definitely works. By the 2nd day we were using it, we could tell it was working and our internal clocks were being reset. We adapted very quickly by time of our arrival in Auckland. On the way home, I just couldn't see me wearing ugly yellow sunglasses to avoid light, so we didn't use Entrain and it took over a week for us to get back on schedule. We bought these cheap but ugly Uvex blue light blocking sunglasses (make you look like Bono from U2) and an inexpensive portable 10,000 lux light box by Circadian Optics from Amazon. Let me know if you have questions. Next time for Batik I plan to use it in both directions.
