I have recently returned from a cruise on board Queen Mary 2 that took in the port of Oslo.



Oslo is not an overlarge city and only has a population of around 590,000. The main berth and terminal for visiting cruise ships is very close to the centre of Oslo and the Oslo Hop On-Hop Off bus service stops at the cruise terminal.


Among some of the excellent sights we visited in our day there were the Nobel Peace Centre...




The Royal Palace...




The Opera House...




and Norway's most visited attraction, the Vigeland Sculpture Park...

I'm biased towards Cunard and Queen Mary 2 in particular.

No I'm not an employee, far to old. It's just that the ship offers everything that I enjoy about cruising.

I note that you are from Australia. My wife and I sailed to Australia on QM2 in January/February 2009 via South America. At Los Angeles I remember we embarked some one thousand of your fellow countrymen for the voyage across the Pacific. I can safely say that everyone had a great time and I thoroughly enjoyed the change in company.

Hi there - thanks for your comments - good to hear the Aussies behaved themselves. We are thinking of taking a transatlantic crossing as I love sea days and I cruise with my son who lives in New York. He doesn't particularly like formal wear so was wondering if a dark suit would be suitable for him. Any suggestions on cabins (or suites)? We usually try for as low as possible in the centre of the ship but must have a shower recess. I've looked on the web but it is a very large ship compared to Regent. Lee

Certainly a dark suit will be more than acceptable.

I have just done a solo trans Atlantic crossing on Queen Mary 2 - my wife couldn't make it and there was a rare bargain price.

You will see I was upgraded to Britannia Club. They are all high staterooms on 12 Deck.

I would suggest that a Princess Grill Stateroom would be very good or even a standard Balcony and dine in the lovely Britannia Restaurant.

We'll be starting our Voyage to the Midnight Sun on the RSS Voyager from Oslo on July 10, so the pictures are of great interest. Sadly, this is not a B & K escorted cruise (although we booked it with Susan), so there don't seem to be many (if any) fellow voyagers from either CC or LCT. I hope at least a few others will be joining us - the trip sounds fantastic!
