Having sailed from the UK across the Atlantic on Queen Mary 2's Christmas and New Year cruise, our first port of call was New York.

With only a day 'in transit' before heading for the Caribbean my wife was on a mission and that mission involved a visit to Central Park in search of the memorial statue of a heroic sled dog called Balto.

We utilised the subway from close to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and made the most of our 'Day in New York'...

Tiffanys was, as always, well decorated...

Having enjoyed a coffee and pastry in the Waldorf's Crave Coffee Shop a kind passer-by took our picture with their tree...

Such a shame we were on a cruise ship. Such wonderful food on offer in Grand Central food courts....

I have written a full review of our day on my cruise blog....

If you find it interesting please comment. If you have any queries then please also comment and I will get back to you.

We had a rather late lunch in the Oyster Bar and Restaurant at Grand Central Station...

Nice pictures. My husband is born/raised New Yorker and we LOVE going back each year. There's no other city like it.

Good morning Marcie.

I agree entirely, no other city like it and I consistently give The Big Apple a tick on city surveys. Have you seen my review covering the High Line Walk?

So much life and things to do...

By the way, I see you are from Fullerton. I have a sister who lives in San Diago - well, Carlsbad really.

Have a nice day.

Good morning Helen.

I am due back in November and am really looking forward to it.

I just love the Jekyll & Hyde Pub on 7th Avenue...

What does an open-face sandwich look like at the J and H?

I went to the j & h when we had little kids and it was located on 57 ? And 5 th. ave. we loved it. I am tonight and for the weekend at the Marriott marquis a block away from the new one and thinking of going w my 19 yo niece. Reviews have been pretty mixed re the food. Johns pizza which is a landmark is right down the street too. So many choices!
