Yes off to my homeland we have a horrible flight (the joys of using miles). I think we will be DEAD by the time we hit the bed.

Cindy and Dave, looking forward to some fun times. I am so ready for this trip. Really looking forward to it. It is only 12:30pm in CA and I am ready for my brother Richard to pick me up. Way early. I am going to take him and myself out to a good steak dinner and some good wine before he takes me to LAX. My plane is not until 11:30pm and I am routed via Sidney before AKL so will not get to AKL until around 5pm Saturday.

Hi all. Well David and I are sitting in a microbrewery on Quay in Auckland. Just wonderful, but everything is here. Survived the 11 hours from shanghai with a few hours sleep. Air New Zealand swaps planes around a bit so unfortunately we didn't have lay flats, but boy did the service and food and wine make up for it! They could not have been more lovely. We are still up, not giving up to even think about a nap. Just did hop on and off. Beautiful city. This place may give Cape Town a run for my favorite place. Haven't seen any leopards though:). Stating at the Hilton right T the doc. Celebrity solstice here just dumped 3500 and 3500 coming on. Place is packed. Wait until they see our sophisticated group.....well.

I checked it out: Airline miles
DALLAS>CHICAGO= 800.41
CHICAGO>TOKYO= 6359.37
TOKYO>SYDNEY= 4857.48
SYDNEY>AUCKLAND= 1332.34
DALLAS>AUCKLAND (Total)= 13,349.12

Milage-wise, it really doesn't sound so bad:
The airline miles from Dallas to Auckland via LAX is 7787.37
(if there was a direct flight -there isn't- it would be 7468)
so going around by Chicago, Tokyo, Sydney and Katies barn is "only" 5561.75 miles longer.
I'll bet the elapsed time is at least twice as much, likely a bunch more!
