Avalon Seine river cruise

Just returned from a cruise on the Avalon Creativity. It’s a very new ship and it has a great appearance. We found that the crew was really good—the restaurant staff couldn’t be better and the wine flowed freely at dinner.

They usually had a choice of two tours available in the ports and the tour guides were very good.

Unfortunately the cabin did not work out as expected. When we arrived our nice cabin on the port side was facing a solid white wall. Because the ship would stay in Paris for the next day’s tours we had a solid white wall for the next day too. Then we found that the ship which would go the length of the Seine and return to Paris always put the port side against land which did not have the pleasant river view. At the port farthest from Paris the ship stayed for two days and once again we were up tightly against a wall. This time our view of the wall changed as the tide came in and out. (we could see different colored bricks as it moved up and down)

You can tell that we were very disappointed. If you decide on an Avalon Seine cruise be sure to get a cabin on the starboard side!!!

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. We're booked on an AMA river cruise next year from Budapest to Amsterdam - hope nothing like that happens to us!

Graham:

Thanks for the warning. We'll be on the same ship to Normandy in Oct.

Cheers! Ray

Wow, I have been on a few river cruises and never really thought about this! I guess I have been lucky and automatically gone for the right ones.

I am taking a Viking river cruise next year along the Rhine and I can't wait!

Never a failure, but always a lesson.

Our AMA cruise was fabulous - no complaints at all.
