So I found a review someone did of thier Silversea cruise, which was less than wonderful.

I saw all the other reviews were quite good, but was wondering if anyone here had had any negative experiences with Silversea and was aware of something I should know about before I book a cruise with them?

I'm a relative newbie, please be kind.

Steven - Welcome to LCT. I am confident that you will receive a number of replies to your inquiry regarding Silversea; so I will provide a few comments to start the ball rolling.

First, all reviews are enormously subjective. One can sometimes read two reviews of the same cruise and find it incredible that the two reviewers were on the same ship. Second, the review to which you refer is over three years old, a long while in the cruise industry. The ship may have been refurbished in that period; and the crew and dining room staff may be entirely different from those who were on the Wind when the reviewer made his trip.

Both on this LCT board and on the Silversea forum on Cruise Critic, you will find many glowing reviews of Silversea cruises. Indeed, on this LCT forum, you will note that Suzanne (Fogmalkin), who recently returned from a cruise on Silver Cloud, stated, amongst other positive comments, that, "The food was the best and most consistent of any cruise I've been on."

I would suggest that when reading reviews, one might use a sort of 80-20 rule, whereby one discounts the few most positive reviews as well as the few most negative ones, and then concentrates on the comments which most consistently appear amongst the majority of reviews.

My personal experience is that Silversea is an excellent line, on which my partner & I would not hesitate to cruise again.

Cheers, Fred

And I would agree with you Freddie on that, the one thing I would say is that I was on the Cloud a few weeks before Suzanne, and I had posted the food we received was The best of any cruise we have taken, and sorry to say Better than Regents.. Maybe it was a fluke, Dont know, but we felt they went above and beyond and it showed..

I had a fantastic cruise on "Cloud" last year and the food was superior to Regent's. Every thing (and crew members) was fantastic. A truly memorable cruise for my 70th. Only one "negative" was the minute shuffleboard court!
