I was able to get 8 of the 10 patches my doctor prescribed for me. The pharmacy said they'd call when the other two come in. Interesting concept to put the patch on the stomach instead of behind the ear.
Ngaire, so glad you put in your order for the Drake Lake!!!!

I will emphatically endorse Olivia's suggestion regarding Scopace as an alternative to the patch. It has a much shorter half life than the patches. Therefore, one can take it shortly before the stormy weather begins and then stop when the nasty weather abates. Further, unlike the patches, one can take Scopace in doses related to body weight. In our humble opinion (based on actual use), Scopace is far superior to the patch because one can take it just before the nasty stuff begins and then not have to deal with the dreary effects for days after, as with the patch. The only side effect we have found is dry mouth (as with the patch). That is easily dealt with by taking liberal doses of single malt scotch or cherry flavored lozenges. (Hmm, can you guess which I chose??) Cheers, Fred

I ordered a Scottevest jacket and it arrived today. I'm pretty impressed at how much I can put in it and it doesn't get too heavy or make me look too much like a pack mule. I picked up another pair of sunglasses today too, just in case. I can't believe it's so close to ZODIAC time!

Was told today by CVS pharmacy that Scopace is no longer manufactured and is not available in pill form. Interesting. Was told by doc to use over the counter bomaine (sp).

I think he's referring to Bonine which is the drug meclizine. From what I've been able to figure out, meclizine is the next best bet after scopolamine. Meclizine is also sold as Dramamine-less drowsy, which is a different drug than regular Dramamine.

Ralph, that must be why the doctor gave me patches but Meclizine tablets. Hoping not to need either. Don't have winter clothes yet, but I'm ready to ride that ship. :) Lauri, Walgreen's at Eldridge & Briar Forest has the patches if you are still looking.

So excited. Doug and I have all of our clothes, memory cards, tripods. I broke down and bought boots because I was scared they wouldn't have my size. I am all packed with my outdoor gear. Now, I have to figure out what to bring for indoors and Buenos Aires. I am really excited too...it will be great seeing you all.

A father and son now on the Silver Explorer are sending daily emails and wife/mom are posting them on CC. Thought some of you ZODIs would be interested in reading the current cruise.

Sounds like they may be dressing more for dinner than we did in the Artic. Maybe it's the holidays or the mix of passengers. Jim wasn't plannning on coat and tie.

Great. THere are enough of our group to set the trend. I remember for the first few days there were a few passengers who thought this was your typical SS cruise. Things changed quickly afer a day of putting on cold weather gear. The damn life jacket gets to be a real pain. Important but no less a pain. Always want to be ready to go on deck. Never know what you might see. Sweater and slacks are perfect if you really want to dress.

Pam and Ralph; thanks; no coat.
We need to start making a list for this trip. I get back from a business trip late on the 6th so we will probably start packing on the 7th.
I still need to figure out computers and cameras.

I was a bit freaked out when I read how dressy they were! I was thinking more along the lines of black pants and decent top/light sweater. I've got too much outdoor gear to be worried about fancy clothes for dinner. I'm starting to get things together, the electronic stuff with all it's associated cables, batteries and chargers is the biggest pain. Why, why, why can't all my Panasonic cameras use the same battery/charger?

There are ALWAYS some that want to dress up, there are always some who are TOO casual and then there is the LCT bunch that gets it JUST RIGHT. Dress for dinner is not important you will see the same basic things I always wear on a ship. Chico black pants and a few tops I will repeat a couple or three times. Do bring some lighter weight items they can make it HOT on the ship over compensating for the cold outside. I can assure you Ken will NOT have a coat and tie.

Eddie Bauer has everything in store 50% off today. I picked up a really nice down vest for a great price. My scopolamine patches came in, I'm trying one out now to make sure I don't get horrible side effects. So far so good.

Who would like to go out for a steak dinner on the 11th? I have Pam & Jim, Beth & Betty, Andi & Doug, me and Lauri. Marc, do you and Arlene want to join us? Anyone else? I was going to make a reservation at the restaurant that Jim Bittle recommended, El Mirasol, since it's closer to where we are staying than the other one I found, La Cabrera. Here is their website . I don't think they start serving until 8:30 pm so if that sounds good to everyone let me know!

Yes, Beth and I are at the Hyatt. Reservation under my name. We arrived on the 11th also.....Delta from ATL. I can't shop until Friday at the earliest. Hoping there will be something for cold weather left in the stores. I think REI will soon become my new BFF.

We have a five hour layover in Atlanta (better safe than sorry). The Crown Room by E15 is closed so we will see you in Crown Room by E14 (actually right across from McDonalds).

I just want to make sure those who will be going out to El Mirasol are okay with the prices. Some of the reviews on Trip Advisor refer to it being sort of expensive. I can try to get an actual menu with pricing if you'd like.
