Marcie, I will be interested to find out if you have the bbq on MINT.

When we were on Navigator to Bermuda, we were a little disappointed that we didn't have the deck bbq that earlier sailors had reported. Joe Raad explained that if the ship is too full (380 pax on Navigator), they cannot have the bbq as they don't have the staff to have bbq along with keeping all restaurants open.

I wonder if you will have the same experience on MINT. (I wonder if we will have same experience on VOYTAN :( )

Pam, your cruise sounds wonderful. Mariner was our first Radisson cruise; sure will be nice to board her again next fall. ;)

Pam, I am so enjoying your reports...sort of a gossipy phone conversation. Can't wait to meet you on ROAR. I love the poolside BBQ's. We have had more fun on the Navigator with this event and hope to repeat in March.

Pam, maybe you can find out whether we have a bbq on MINT, and if so, which night? I usually don't do the outside buffet things, but with a group, I think it would be fun!

Pam - your reports are wonderful!!!!! Thanks for taking the time from your relaxing/fun-filled/3-card poker-playing days and nights to fill us in! Question for you - do they operate the roulette at night? Or just BJ and poker?

What cellphone service works off the coast of Mexico? Does a regular US Service (like Verizon) work there? I am going to have to stay in touch while I away & it sure would be a help.

Pam - I believe you were in Zihuatanejo which is a small fishing town adjacent to Ixtapa.

Cell phones- Well I know mine works in Mexico as I was in Mexico City for Labor Day. My provider Cingular required me to call Customer Service ahead of time to set this up - my rate is $0.79/minute in and out.

Pam, thanks so much for the info and glad you're having such a nice time. My favorite room so far (haven't been in the Grand Suite) has been the Penthouse suite on the Mariner. I can imagine how lovely your room is and on the lovely Mariner, you seem to be having a very special time.

Todd, what is so nice about the Penthouse suite is the wonderful living area and the extra large balcony. Ask your steward to get you a lounge chair for the balcony. It will fit!

Enjoy!

Yes, the fitness instructor is Jaquie. Please understand, I know this because her name is in the daily newsletter...LOL!

Last night we did Lattitudes, it wasn't as good as we remembered it from 2001. Maybe it's just that we are older. There was still plenty to eat.

I have discovered mangos and this morning there were none at breakfast. I may have depleted the supply...sigh....

Today is Puerto Vallarta; we are going to do another one of those shore excursions that include an a/c bus; we used to scorn those, but now we are grateful. I am still just storing the pics I take on my camera without deleting any, and I am nowhere near having the memory card full.

We have Cingular as our cell phone provider, btw.

Pam!!

Glad to hear you are having a fabulous time!

It isn't mango season right now (at least in that part of the world...usually March is peak) maybe that is why the Mariner ran out?

Glad to hear the Mariachi night was great!

We are just now docking in Mazatlan (edited because we didn't dock an hour late, I had forgotten to turn my watch back), and we are going to sail at 2:00 this afternoon instead of 4:00. Olivia, I hope this doesn't happen to your excursion. All of the excursions listed in our book, except one or two, were 6-7 hours in duration, and obviously they aren't going to happen. We hadn't decided what to do, and with the shorter time, we may just stay onboard once again.

I'm not the person to ask about the wines, I'm so sorry; red wine will give me a migraine in about a heartbeat, and white wine makes me stuffy. I loved the white wine in Lattitudes the other night, and paid the price yesterday morning. But I'm avoiding it most of the time.

Todd, your "gift" has a twin brother now, so the plan moves forward. Now all I have to do is make sure the twins are padded enough in the gift bag so that they don't rattle together and get broken.

Last night, none of the menu items called out to us, so we had spaghetti from room service. They do a very good bolognese sauce!

Once again, no mango. I am very sad, but I'm sure I'll live until I get home.

Oh, and I had email from my wonderful daughter this morning; she found a place to take my mom for a flu shot!!! And I had never mentioned it to her because she has so much to do with homeschooling the big kids and keeping Hurricane Sarah off the ceiling.

Mark made noises this morning about seven days being enough. I told him to suck it up, because we are signed up for PARTY. He said "yes dear".

Since I edited to change the docking time, I'll add this. We did go into the little pierside market and wandered around for a few. We would have liked to see this city, but the way shortened time made us decide not to. Maybe next time.

Did the ship give you any idea why they seem to have shortened all your port times? Doesn't seem quite fair

Well, for our planned excursion with Frank in Mazatlan, at least they have 3 nights and 2 days to get us there on time! I hope the longer excursions in PV won't be cancelled. Something does seem strange, as I would think they know exactly how long it takes to get from port to port, provided the ship is "up to speed". I for one am looking forward to our 3 sea days, but looking forward to our port visits as well!

Olivia, you should be more than okay for Mazatlan. The traditional 7 day Mex. Riv. goes to Puerta Vallarta first, then Maz., and, then Cabo. For whatever reason, Rad. goes first to Maz., then PV....and, if speed is an issue, don't be surprised if you're late for Cabo.

As far as the 10 day Pam is on now, Radisson decided to try and squeeze an extra port stop into the traditional 10 day Mex. Riv. They have 3 sea days in 10 days, same as you for 7 days, and, they go very much further south, to Acapulco, than MINT does, to PV. They juggled the schedule to make the extra stop, and obviosly failed; four of the six stops are noon or later, and, that's pitiful, IMHO! The traditional Mex. Riv. for 10 days does PV first, and, Cabo last, with 4 sea days, not three!

Thank you for that info aaa! I was going to find a map of Mexico tonight, as I've never been on a cruise there. I don't even know how the ports go from north to south, that's how dumb I am, never having cruised there before. Our last port is Cabo, and it is a rather short stay, with excursions only 2 1/2 hours or so. We depart at 2pm, but have a sea day following that to make up some time, hopefully. They have already extended our arrival in LA to later.

All that means is that it is considered an Eastern Pacific storm. What you are concerned with is the 900 miles south of Baja. However, it should be out of the way by the time you get to Mexico.

At www.wundergound.com under maritime weather, you can find predictions of wave heights. Doesn't look too bad for Friday, as far as the forecast goes now.

You will have a wonderful cruise!

On our earlier Mexican Riviera in March, we hit the following ports, in the following order: Cabo, Acapulco, Zihuatanejo, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan...no problems or delays...so they have been able to pull of this itinerary without any problems, before.

So, either the Mariner is having pod problems which is affecting speed or the the prevailing weather conditions are slowing it down.

That would suck, however if people's plans are getting/are going to get cut short because of shorter than expected port time...for me, since my Hernia has precluded any excursions/activities, it won't crimp any of my plans...other than to veg out!!

There are some majorly unhappy people onboard, I've been eavesdropping. I did get somebody to admit to me yesterday that we are still limping along with a damaged propeller (from that June incident in Alaska).

I mean, think about it. We left Los Angeles several hours earlier than originally scheduled, yet didn't get into Cabo until several hours later than originally scheduled (with a sea day in there). We've managed to get to the ports that are fairly close together on time, but cut Mazatlan short by several hours. There was only one shore excursion listed that was less than 6-7 hours, and we were there for six.

Change to happier subject; Todd, the gift bag is securely locked into the cabinet in Lynn's (Cruise Consultant) office. Each of the twins is wrapped in about eight layers of tissue, and she has the bag very well wedged in. She said she'll get it to you on embarkation, but if she gets busy your name and suite number are on the attached tag.

I got MANGOS again this morning! I had spotted a couple in a fruit display and stashed them in my fridge, and I'll enjoy them later.

As to the seas and winds, it's kind of breezy this morning and we noticed slightly rougher seas last night and this morning. Bright sun outside. We don't have a motion sickness problem, it's just sometimes fun to watch us try to walk down the corridor.

We have a short stop today at San Carlos. From the description, I was convinced it was a bare beach with not even restrooms, but now I read that there are a few people there. Nobody seems to know why we are stopping there.

I'll be in touch.

Excerpted from the A San Carlos website. Looks kind of nice:

www.sancarlosmexico.com

Have fun!

Edit to add: The image of you sneaking down the hall with your two pilfered mangos just made me laugh!

Located on the Sea of Cortez, the lovely Mexican resort community of San Carlos offers something for everyone. For water sports enthusiasts, there are beautiful sand beaches, spectacular diving and snorkeling, kayaking, and offshore fishing. San Carlos is only a 250 mile, 4-hour drive from Nogales, AZ on Hwy 15, a four-lane divided highway.

The community hosts an 18-hole championship golf course, tennis courts, a bowling alley and numerous gift shops and galleries for shopping and browsing. For the boater, two marinas are available with paved launch ramps, dry storage facilities, complete marine repair and maintenance services, fuel docks and reasonable rates for slip rental. Numerous restaurants featuring seafood, Sonoran beef, Mexican dishes and American cuisine are located throughout the town. Prime real estate is available for sale and there are motels, hotels, RV Parks, condominiums and private home rentals to fit every group and budget.

If you’ve not experienced the ambiance and relaxing lifestyle of a Mexican seaside resort, you owe it to yourself to visit San Carlos.
You may never want to leave.
