There have been several threads on Cruise Critic about the CCC and informal nights dress codes for Regent. According to the Regent web site, golf shirts or the like are not acceptable for CCC nights; men must have a buttoned shirt. Jackets, with tie recommended, are the "requirement" for informal nights. What is the experience with this dress code on recent Regent cruises and what are the opinions of Regent regulars?

I am in the minority. I like to "dress up" for dinner on a 6 star cruise line, so my opinion is more formal and CCC. I know I am going to hear about this one. lynn

Lynn, I like dressing up too. Surprisingly, so does Alan. In fact, he won't book a cruise that doesn't have formal nights except for the short 7-day ones, which we don't usually take. I have never thought that formal clothes take up that much extra room if you choose wisely and pack smart.

I'll come out of the closet too!! We also like dressing up, as this is something we don't normally do in our "everyday lives" - we live in the country and don't go to the opera or Broadway shows or anything. So, we kind of enjoy the dressing up, and also find that it really does not take any extra room to pack the fancy duds. But, to answer Billybob66, even though my husband always follows the dress code of the evening, I have noticed others who do not necessarily follow the code to the letter on informal and CCC evenings. Although the literature says "no golf shirts", I see many men who wear nice long sleave polo shirts on CCC nights. We also see guys who don't wear a tie on informal nights, although they do usually at least have a jacket with an open collar. In our experience, the "adherence" to the dress code seems to vary depending on where you are cruising (Alaska vs. transatalantic vs. Europe, etc). But standard "t-shirts", blue jeans or shorts or never apporpriate in the evening.
And if you don't have a tuxedo, don't buy one just for one cruise, unless you plan on taking lots more cruises in the near future - a dark suit or jacket with tie will suffice for "formal" nights. Take a couple of ties and just recycle them - no one will notice if you repeat your outfit! Just pack smart!

Donna and Cindy, I am shocked to find others who like to dress up. Donna, I agree. If done properly, it really doesn't take up that much room in your suitcase. That is, unless you are a shoe nut like Karen!! For dressy, I have what I call my "Cinderella Shoes" that are clear with gold and silver accents and they work with all my dressy stuff. Lynn Billybob....Cindy is correct about people not adhering to the dress code, but I would feel more comfortable sticking to what they ask.

Cindy - so true!!! My husband never takes tux just dark suit - it has worked for many many Regent cruises - why some have such a problem with the "country club" phrase interesting to me?? - every person we have met on Regent has been down to earth wonderful whether they belong to CC or not and what's so hard about putting on decent clothes???-

Interesting discussion so far. The question as I see it is not whether passengers should "obey" the dress code, I personally think it is rude not to, but what the dress code should be, especially on a warm climate cruise like in the Eastern Med in the middle of the summer. As I mentioned on Cruise Critic, I find that younger folks (define that as you want) tend to not want to dress up as much as those of an older persuation (define away again). I see this at the Symphony and at the theater, although I am appalled that matters have deteriorated to the point that very young folks actually come in jeans. I do not see a cruise as a "dressy" way to travel myself, as long as the clothing is clean, decent and at would at least meet the standard of business casual, which is the standard I am used to, especially since I do not belong to a country club and have no idea how "those folks" dress. I would like Regent to reconsider its policy and make it clear what it expects in a dress code and why.

Hello Everyone:
I have been following this topic on Cruise Critic as well and I have to say it is really terribly confusing.
I am 55 and live in Manhattan and go out quite a bit.
I have shirts that are not inexpensive that I wear untucked over slacks. The more subtle Tommy Bahama style shirt (not wild Caribbean patterns!) and similar.
I would like to know if CCC means a shirt has to be tucked in?
Is the untucked style shirt unacceptable or frowned upon at CCC dinners on a 7 day RSSC Mediterranean Cruise (beginning this Saturday)?
I plan to bring a blazer for "informal" nights - and had hoped that a navy blazer with tan or kakhi slacks and a nice crisp white shirt or similar would be acceptable without a tie.
If I need to bring a tie for informal nights and need to tuck shirts in on CCC then I will - but it is not exactly my style (which I can honestly say is in no way slovenly or unkempt).
I pride myself in always looking good and being well dressed but have never before read so much controversy about a dress "code!"
I do not want to offend in any way - but also would still like to be comfortable in my own style.
Can anyone advise?
Many Thanks!
Philip

My two cents are perhaps slightly different than most, but as a member of the exalted Country Club set, we are fighting the battle of the jeans among our younger members at our club. With this economy, they are winning, because all clubs need the revenue right now and we are not going to throw the babies out with the bath water. So wear your jeans (in the club, not the Compass Rose) if you must, but please show up and pay! It is this that may be motivating the dumbing down of dress code, and Regent's not enforcing the level to whatever extent. How much does one really expect them to alienate their paying clientele. So you see what you get. My other penny is that I'd PERSONNALY rather see someone in a sport jacket and khakis sans tie then in a blue blazer and and slightly different blue pants trying to call it a "dark suit". eeesh..

This is just my perosonal opinion, but we have cruised Regent many times...
My husband has several very nice, straight hemmed button shirts that he does wear untucked on CCC nights, so I don't think you would feel out of place.
On informal nights, your blazer, slacks and white shirt would be perfect. Remember, tie is recommnended, but not required, and there will be plenty of other guys without ties.
And if you do have a formal night during your cruise and don't want to pack the dark suit and tie or tux, remember you can always eat in the alternate restaurant, or get room service. Usually on our longer cruises, we do room service several times, when we don't feel like getting dressed up - you can order the same great food you get in the Compass Rose.

For a woman I agree that formal clothes don't take up that much room. My hubby and I usually extend our cruise with an add on trip. After Dragon we are going to Cambodia. Since we are immediately getting on a plane after the cruise which has a one bag limit in economy (Silk Air) with a weight limit added space and poundage for a tux and accessories does matter. This segment has 3 formal nights which seems excessive for such a short time but we will probably eat in our room just to avoid the hassle of extra clothes. When we travel he usually wears his blazer so that is not a problem.
