We've just returned from a fantastic Montreal to NYC jazz cruise on the Radisson Navigator, and are considering a cruise on the Silver Shadow. We'd appreciate your comments comparing the two ships. We know that the food on the Navigator is great, that we received two free bottles of spirits in our room, that there was no tipping, and that all drinks with dinner were included. How does the Silver Shadow compare? The suites appear to be about the same size, and the Silver Shadow seems to include all drinks, not just those with dinner.

Is there entertainment on the Silver Shadow? That isn't clear from the web site.

Joanandjoe. I have not been on the Navigator, but I have been on the Whisper (identical to the Shadow). From what I understand from people that have sailed both, the Navigator and the Shadow are almost identical, with the exception of the deck 5 non private Verandahs. They are about the same size and were both built in the same shipyard. The Shadow however does have double vanities as well as a seperate shower and bath in all of the staterooms.

There has been entertainment on both of our cruises. Even some production numbers by the Jean Ann Ryan Production Company.

Drinks throughout the ship are included with the exception of the Le Champagne specialty restaurant. You do not have to pay to eat there, but you will have to pay for the wines on their wine list. There are no complimentary pourings in that venue. I might add that if you like caviar, you will find that there is no charge as well.

It's amazing to me how many similarities there are between the Navigator and the Silver Shadow and Whisper. The stateroom and deck floorplans are nearly identical. Silversea, upon request, will stock your room with your desired sprits, but with an open bar policy 24/7, I have never found a need! The entertainment is pretty similar, although Silversea has offered some fabulous specialty acts...there was a Cirque du Soleil (sp?) show that was breathtaking.
Since Radisson and Silversea are so similar,I find itinerary to be one of the main decision factors in choosing....although with Silversea offering their Silver Sailings itineraries with up to 50% savings as well as great deals on select first quarter 2006 sailings, they are successfully attracting both new and returning guests to their ships. I love a deal!
