I am desperate! And going mildly postal, since none of the software I have found seems to be able to allow me to produce a simple slideshow of my digital photos of the last couple of cruises. I have: Microsoft Picture It; Photo Explosion with DVD PhotoPlay; Udeal Disc Creator; and the Roxio Software that comes with the Hi-Val external disc burner. Each of them seems to be able to do some of the necessary tasks, such as allowing me to sort the photos, add text to some of them for transition, etc. But none of them seems to be able to capable of allowing me to set up and burn a CD or DVD of my cruise. I am trying to put about 250 photos on the slideshow, with a total space of a few hundred megs, easily enough to fit onto a regular 700 Mg CD. Any ideas? Is there another decent software out there for creating and burning slideshows? I welcome any suggestions.

I have Adobe Photoshop 1 and it allows me to make slideshows (I even add music to them). I have no idea how many photos you can put on one disc...??

Doesn't the software that came with your digital camera give you this capability? My finepix viewer software that came with the camera allows me to do this. Try www.irfanview.com but not sure if this is what you are talking about (I am very technically challenged).

Are you running Windows XP? You can used Microsoft's Picture Viewer and Windows Explorer. Very simple. Call me (you have my phone number, I think or Dena can give it to you)after you and Katyusha run along the beach and I can walk you through it.

You can drag and drop the photos right to the CD using Explorer. The Windows Key+E opens Explorer then Use your mouse and drop and drag it to the CD. Microsoft Picture Editor allows you to do slideshows.

As I recall, Roxio Photo Suite (formerly "MGI Photo Suite") can do this. Also, there are "free" CDs with software for this given away with some of the British digital photo magazines (e.g., Digital Camera World) that are on the stands at Barnes and Noble, right now.

Also try "Windows Movie Maker" it comes with Windows XP and has alot of features.

I use Photo Jam, a shockwave download for $40. Simple and easy.

Marcie - is Photoshop the one that sells for about $600. in the computer stores? If so, that may be a bit steep for my slideshow projects. The only Photoshop set I could find at CompUSA was $599. Maybe they make a simpler (read that as "cheaper") version?

George - It turns out that the Roxio software that came with my DVD burner is indeed Roxio Photo Suite; and it works fairly well, except that it doesn't have cool transitions like fade in and out. The other problem was that the CD I made will play fine on one of our DVD players (the older one) but not on our new DVD player/recorder. The CD made with Ulead Movie Factory plays on both DVD players but is out of focus on both!! Does anyone know if things would work better if I recorded to a DVD rather than to a CD? As you can all tell from my questions, I am very much a tyro regarding such matters and, like most other such novices, find very little assistance in the manuals (paper or on-line) available for the various software. Clearly, the manuals are written by computer people for computer people and further all too often are obviously thrown together by someone for whom English is neither a first or second language. Maybe the best course of action is to got back to 35-mm slides and my trusty Kodak Carousel projector...

There is a program called Photoshop Elements that is a mini version of Photoshop. That works well too. I am still learning that. Actually if you have 35 mm slides, those can be made into .jpg files with a scanner or at a good photo processor. They can then be burned to cd or dvd for viewing. I just took my slides in to be developed (I still shoot slide with a 35mm camera some of the time - better color among creative issues) and had them burn a cd for me of the images.

Photoshop Elements is only $99 (can be found at Costco/Price Club) as well. :)

Photoshop the ($600 one) is what I use for all my graphic work. It took me about a year to master and have been using it for about 6 years now. I would not recommend it for slide shows.
Photoshop Album is a great program for that.

However I really think the best working program for beginners is "Microsoft's Plus Digital Media" Its made for WIndows XP and with the new SP2 it works great. It's only $19.00 and works for not only picture slide shows but video as well.
