Congratulations Beth...so proud of you! Maybe you can borrow a friend's dog to walk in the morning. It will make your walks more interesting & enjoyable and be helping both of you.

Keep us posted on all your success!

Funny you suggest that Marcie - Tony walks our neighbor's dog, when available - too slow for me - WHEN I walked I listened to music, headphones, and moved as wanted it to END!!!!! 2 miles 30 minutes my time THEN!!!!!! Walked early am and late pm total 4 miles - no doubt it works!!!! Also had personal trainer ugh! kids gave to me as b'day gift - this poor gal didn't know what hit her at 6:30 am when I arrived - 6 weeks of misery for both of us

Marcie, I would love to walk a neighbor's dog, but no one I know around here has one. Since I like to "go" so much and I have a small condo, a dog is not something I want to invest in these days.

Joanna, both you and your personal trainer must have a love/hate relationship.

Though last night was tough (night time is my munch time), I made it through. The mornings always look better to me!! So today I continue.....

I keep hoping to find a "goddog" to walk and dog sit, but so far no dice. We also live in a condo, and there are plenty of dogs here, but none that we know well enough yet for that. When we had our dog Shadow, she had a "godfather" who helped out from time to time and he loved it.

We are still travelling a fair amount, and would't get a puppy unless we had a space of time with no travel. And then there's the cat...enough said, he hates dogs, so we would have to introduce a pup very carefully.

Keep up the good work--we're both trying to eat sensibly right now to get in shape for our next cruise, and get healthier--those pounds just creep on unless you are vigilant.

Most days in the city when the weather is good I try to walk a mile or two, feels great.

Good news to report from last week. A total of -8.3 gone. YEAH!!!!!!!

Went to the new Buffalo Wild Wings yesterday with some girlfriends and had celery and blue cheese dressing. Doctor said NO FAT FREE DRESSING. It was great fun and the crunchy celery was wonderful. What a cheap thrill I am these days!!

Marcia, I wanted to know the same thing. My doctor told me that fat free foods have more sugar in them. Sugar makes fat in our bodies.

Thanks, Sue. There are times I tire of the shakes, but they aren't bad at all. At least I have my meals planned out for me. All I need to do is decide between the flavors.

It's time for my weekly report. My grand total (drum roll, please) is 10.4 lbs in 3 weeks. Cheated a bit this week and still lost 2.1 lbs. Doctor says I need to be real and eat food when I feel the urge, but not over do it. My celery sticks and blue cheese dressing sure were a good fix. Plus Randy and I went to Ocracoke over the weekend and I did splurge on 2 Thai shrimp spring rolls with peanut hoisin sauce. They were heaven!!

I see by your countdown clock I only have 37 more days to jump on this weight loss bandwagon. Don't see that happening!

Way to go Beth! Your dr is right...if a person deprives themselves of a "treat" that is not good either. Glad you were able to enjoy those spring rolls and still see the lbs disappearing!

Thanks Cindy, Let's just call it a "deviation from the plan."

Reporting in with my weekly update. Lost 4.1 lbs this week for a grand total of 14.5 lbs in 4 weeks. I am excited but craving some Mexican food.

Doctor said that steak, beans and salad are the best thing to eat. Didn't ask about the guacamole!! Guess I'll have to read up on that. Will have to go light on the chips, too.

Thanks, everyone. Some days it isn't easy, but when I see immediate results, it keeps me on track. I do seem to deviate, but with good foods like my celery and blue cheese dressing and 6 pretzels. It does help, even tho I do cheat.

I have my plan for Mexican night together, now to enjoy it with friends.

Hi All,

I continue to lose weight, now a total of 19.8 lbs in 6 weeks. Was measured today and have lost 15 inches in my waist and hips. YIPPEE!! I feel pretty good about that. Doctor wants me to lose more, so I will be more strict to the diet, no deviating this week. Got to get ready for MOOSE!!

Thanks Diane & Joanna,

Today I met some other retired educators for lunch and had lots of H2O and my nutrition bar. Had loads of laughs..... the Mexican food looked great, but gotta stay on the plan.

I may get flamed for bringing up this touchy subject, but I had foot surgery this past September which kept me from my daily 5 mile walks (just starting to work my way back up there this past month)and then the holidays were right around the corner and somehow 8 lbs have found a home on my body. Anyone else having any issues with a few unwanted holiday lbs?

I took my dogs for a 2 mile walk this afternoon...I am determined to shed those lbs! ;)

Good for you, Sue. Walking invigorates me. I have been walking about 2.5 miles the past 3 months. It has really helped me start my day. Since I have done some extra snacking over the holidays, I need to get the bad food out of the house. Unfortunately eating it is my solution. Good luck in your exercise program.

Sue, yes I have current issues. Why would you get flamed? This is supposed to be a support thread.

I again gained weight on my recent cruise mostly because of sloth. Walking around the ship a few times just doesn't cut it, and it was too hot for me to make a serious attempt. Winter has set in here, and although I'm walking as much as I can, the weather interferes. Today I'll walk over to the bank, about a mile, and perhaps back if I feel like it.

Five miles seems a long way to me even at the best of times. Two miles with your dogs sounds good to me, keep up the good work.

For me, I think portion control is my biggest failing--I just plain eat too much. I have to learn not to have seconds. And not let myself get starving hungry. And not, I repeat NOT, beat up on myself!

Wendy I was joking about the getting flamed (guess I should have put a smiley next to it). ;) :)

You are very right about portion control...that is my downfall, too, and then not to beat ourselves up over it!

I loved doing the 5 miles, but I do not stress over how far I walk...as long as I get a walk in that is all that matters.

Did 2 miles about an hour ago in the drizzly fog - sorta fun walking in it as it was kind of eerie and no one drives on our road so I knew I'd be safe from being hit by a car.

Thanks for chiming in and hang in there! :ch:
