I'm posting this on the off-chance another LCTer is a Tom Petty fan like I am. He and the Heartbreakers announced their summer tour. The schedule is below. I'm looking forward to seeing the band a few times before ROAR2. This will make the summer go by faster!

I've been a big Tom Petty fan since the 70's. There is a documentary on him which runs on the Sundance Channel which was highly recommended to me though I haven't seen it (we don't get that channel). It's directed by Peter Bogdanovich.

Huge fan base in this area as he is Gainesville born and bred - I think he played at UF in 2006 and the place went crazy!!!! I'd love to see him at the Hollywood Bowl in June -

Tom Petty and all the Heartbreakers are great musicians and I, too, grew up with their music. In the ’80s right before I went to college, I spent a summer following their tour up and down the East Coast...what a wonderful experience!

Their stint as Bob Dylan's backup band is also something I'll remember forever.

I was always a huge fan of the band but when I got to work on Tom's first book, Conversations With Tom Petty, I respected them even more. (I was the book's editor.)

Dena, the documentary is definitely worth watching. It's been on PBS a few times over the past month or so. There's also a companion coffee table book called "Runnin' Down a Dream" that's nice if you want to walk down memory lane through photos, backstage passes, ticket stubs, etc. (Conversations With Tom Petty is more Tom's story in a as-told-to Q&A format.)

Joanna, I've been through Gainesville several times and have seen the band there! And, I'm considering the Hollywood Bowl show. I'm torn between that show and the one in Chicago (since I could celebrate my birthday at the concert).

I'm really looking forward to this summer!

Thanks Andrea - I will watch for the show on PBS. It's not showing up there on Tivo at this time. I had added it to our Netflix queue awhile back but it's still showing as "unknown availability" there.

Well, the ticket buying frenzy for this summer's Tom Petty tour is over. I got front row for the show in Philadelphia, 2nd row at the Prudential Center in Newark, and 3rd row at Madison Square Garden. I'm a happy Heartbreaker fan!

Great news, Andrea. THREE CONCERTS!!! I know you will love them all.

Randy asked me last week if I wanted to go when Tom comes to Raleigh this summer. Steve Winwood is fronting. That same weekend, Crystal, Diane (coffeecup) and I are heading to Ocracoke for some island time together. So no Heartbreakers for me this summer. Our small LCT GTG will be fun.
