waiting for pix - whenever I had my hair freshly highlighted I always felt I had to spiff up my makeup to go with my new blonde locks - spiff for me is a little more blush and lipstick

Oh sure, Andi - I couldn't get tix in LA and now I can get them in NYC! Unfortunately, I can't get to Madison Square Garden so easily!

The latest - not that you care.
My poor neighbor still doesn't have a phone, but luckily they are off for a weekend, sans kids in New Orleans for some Laisser les Bon Temps Rouler!
No one has shown up today. I just called. "Plumber, what plumber?" No plumber schedule at your housed today.
At leat I can flush all weekend, if I want to.

All I can do right now is laugh about it.

Keep up your great sense of humor, Betty. Maybe the bright spot in all this is that once they dig 4 more feet, they strike oil or find buried treasure!
Take care, my friend. I feel for you!

Denise If it is buried treasure, I will have lots of upcoming travel plans to research. An oil derrick is probably against our deed restrictions. Seriously, I have no idea what 4 more feet does.
Plus, I have a more important trauma tonight. My Princess style phone has finally died after 20 years. Services tomorrow at 10; visitation at 11. Bring food! Free booze!

My condolences as well - those were the best phones in the world weren't they? Sorry we too can't make it, but again as Denise said will be there in spirit. If we were coming though - I would bring...........ummmm....lets see, what would I bring..........ok got it, a cheese platter with good fresh baguettes and yummy crackers!!! Now if I were Karen or Betty K, or Kathy, I would be able to put one right up on this board right now, however, I am very computer challenged, so no cute little pics from me. Best I can do is <img border="0" alt="[beer]" title="" src="graemlins/beer.gif" />

My best friend is a professional organizer and designs these things. Once you get one closet done, be prepared to do the rest of the house. ( www.napo.net is the national organization's website).

Love the closet Andrea, I need to update! I still have those "wire basket" things they had back in the 80's. If they are smart, they don't make them anymore.
Whew, just sent off the last of the weekend visitors, my daughter and 7 other friends (mostly from her alma mater Kenyon). On Friday night after work, I packed them two big coolers of food and drink for grilling on the beach off road at Assageague Island National Seashore and routed them out of bed the next morning at 7 a.m. so they wouldn't have to wait in line (they have a quota, and then it is one on, one off). Made me realize how lucky I am to live where I do. One girl was from Arkansas, a guy from Michigan, can't remember the others, but none from here. They were SO relieved to get out of Washington for a weekend, and all had never ever been off-road on a beach where people keep their space. The Chincoteague ponies were a bonus, but the green head flies finally sent them home at about 3:30. That was okay with them, it is wonderful to see young people enjoy something for the first time and be so verbal about what an experience it was (for the first time ever to be on an uncrowded beach!)
Kathy, my daughter took one look at my bedroom, my home "office" (really, it's the computer room), and my closet, and she is coming here after we get back from Bermuda to set me straight. I am a pack rat, fortunately my kids are not. My girls ALWAYS clean out my closets because they really like that mission! first one does it, then the other. I love it!

Andrea I have gotten hooked on watching Mission Reorganization on HGTV & now have the bug to toss, donate & keep. I hear my closet calling everyday - just can't seem to hit that start button. Your wonderful results have reinspired me. Yours looks great. Kathy, that web site gave me The National Association of Police Organizations. I probably would be arrested if law enforcement sees it.

Well, that was fun. Went to Napo.com and yes, Betty, you did not have more than an appropriate amount of wine. Then went to NAPO.com and found Pizza. I've edited my original post. It's www.napo.net !!!

Betty, I can't believe I've started to watch HGTV. I have never been one to decorate - we've lived here for 8 years in November and the only thing we did was paint about 4 years ago. I have one painting hung, and a shadow box of my wedding bouquet. Other than that, bare white walls. I guess this what happens when you decide not to move, but really need an updated look!
Thanks for the website Kathy! I actually love to get rid of things and have been diligently downsizing books, clothes, etc.
Now all I need is someone to help me decide what color paint to use around the house!

Andrea - congratulations on getting the closet done! You sound like a girl after my own heart. I love to keep things streamlined, too. My challenge, of course, is living with a packrat. I've learned I have to control what comes in the door. Once it, it will be a fight to the finish to get it (or something else) to be removed.
Picking out paint color frustrates me. Both Glidden and Sherwin-Williams have pretty good websites. Glidden groups their colors by tone (bright, muted, etc) and Sherwin-Williams will pop up with coordinating colors for any paint you choose. The benjamin moore site will put the color into a sample room arrangement but isn't as good at telling you which tones are similar or what colors coordinate (ie, trim color to go with wall paint). I have spent way too much time on this the past two weeks. Fortunately, the colors we settled on for the front bedroom & bath look just right. The hallway was a lay-up; I just had the painter do the same scheme as the foyer. It is a big improvement. Now let's hope the other two bedroom colors work as well. That would be a home run, indeed!
Still waiting anxiously to appreciate the blondmaker's skill! cheers, Anne

My designer puts stripes of paints on the wall in the room you are painting. It gives you vision before you actually use the color. Buy a can of a base paint to cover the original color (maybe a white) and let it dry - maybe a 3 foot square. Put the colors you think you want in 6 inch stripes within the square. Make sure you put that square where the brightest light will hit it since the color will change. Look at in at all different times of day including night.
When I first went to paint our house several years ago, we had a country green colored carpet and I wanted a white paint with a tint of green to go with it. I picked a color called sky and the designer never said a word, but, I didn't see it in the proper light. Just bright sunlight. Well, duh, it was powder blue. I'd done much of the upstairs in it and I hated it with the greeens.

Kathy - checking the color is right with a sample of the paint is a good idea. One great development is the paint manufacturers making smaller jars of test paint. Benjamin Moore offers this for about 100 or so of their colors. Ralph Lauren also had small sizes at Home Depot. Unfortunately, the colors I was agonizing over are not ones that come in the smaller size.
You can always get a quart mixed to check the color in your own place. This then brings up reason #2 I hate picking out paint colors. If you learn it's not the right color, then you have the hassle of disposing of the unused paint.
Cheers, Anne

I agree it is a headache selecting the right color and that color can look very different at night vs during the day - we have cathedral ceiling in living room with beams painted white - I had the painter paint the ceiling in between the beams the palest palest (and I mean pale!) pink/lavender - it looks great and especially soothing at night - I had it done when Tony was out of town as he wouldn't agree to it - he was home for 3 days before he noticed it and loved it

Speaking of color - Paige and I nearly divorced over them. We FINALLY compromised to reasonable choices although I did give in the Master bedroom. I think we have 15 different colors in the house. Oh the headaches...

Joanna,
I was sooo confused... Restrained gold, Ivoire, Salsa, ...ahhhhh. I am glad it is over and I am sure she is too. I was not very easy to get along with during those planning sessions.
I hate to say it but I would have been OK with all white walls, but I have to admit the colors look good.

I have seen Ravishing Red by Benjamin Moore(probably like Salsa? and I love it) and I think the color of my ceiling was pale raspberry ice and a great mustard color for one family room wall - and pale limeade for our bedroom - now I used these colors at various times and not all together - made sure they flowed from room to room - color is exciting to me - I get dreary with neutrals - if I had a formal dining room or library ( I do not) red would be my color!!!!

The Sherwin-Williams and Glidden websites are great! Thanks so much for the recommendation. I actually had some colors in mind, and I think they might actually work.
Anne - I'm getting a haircut on Saturday so I'll try to get a picture taken when it looks good!
Oh yes, my husband is a packrat. When I first moved here from Ohio to live with him I threw away 8 bags of trash - magazine, newspapers - I can't even remember what else.

Andrea I am married to a packrat & infortunately also gave birth to one. I have given up on my DH & maybe my son will change when he has to deal with cleaning out this house after we are gone - many, many years from now. And thnaks to you, I have started on my closet. At least the shoes portion. Shoes are not one of my loves & yet, where & why did I buy some of these pairs is a mystery. But the biggest mystery is "when in the world is the last time I wore these?" I know that is is the first clue for Do Not Keep!
