I love this thread, and so admire all of you wonderful cooks out there who seem to manage to make wonderful meals with little effort! My problem is getting to the store to buy the ingredients! I hate shopping for food. I love Stouffer's French Bread Pizza. I lived off that stuff in college. I'm with you Olivia on food shopping. It's such a hassle, and I get overwhelmed.

I know Fresh Market!! I love that store...my favorite section is the meat dept. and their marinated filet shish kabobs...oh. and the bakery...and the candy...and the pre-cooked meats, so easy to shop for dinner. Sorry, I was carried away. Oh, the flower dept. is nicer than any florist in town. I should be on their advertising payroll ;)

Thanks, Masaki - The man in the fish department told me it was like an Ahi Tuna. I almost cooked it rare style like that. It must have been from the belly. I was experiementing with new stuff.
Lawrence and Olivia - I have eaten my share of the French Bread Pizza's. They were a staple in the singles eras of my life! They make a great easy dinner. Same with Pasta - but not the kind in a can. I'd boil some Capillini, throw some frozen shrimp and brocolli in the water with the pasta and season with garlic and olive oil.

Suzie: I agree Fresh market has great stuff - and I love the classical music playing in the background, has a calming influence on me, so I load my cart with flowers, meats, wines, cheeses, Godiva chocolates (starberry rhubarb pie too) and then gag when I look at my bill -

Just getting back to this thread - Girard's Old Venice Italian is also a great marinade/dressing. I always have at least one spare bottle of that and the champagne in the cupboard. Never heard of Fresh Market but it sounds like I'd go broke if we had one. I don't mind shopping but it sounds like I'd like it better if I could do my grovery shopping there! Joanna you actually made grocery shopping sound relaxing!

Houston has a place called Central Market. I don't know if it is a chain or just local. Thankfully it is about 15 miles from my house. Fresh Market sounds like the same type of place. That way I can't be tempted.

Hey, Joanna
Fantasy worlds can be wonderful. If you remember many posts back, I am not a cook - and don't want to be. But I have found even some of the precooked dinner at the fresh meat market at COSTCO aren't that bad. And Clay can go through a package of 10 turkey rolls from there in a single day, just as a snack. My cooking level is "Let's go Krogering!"

Betty: Your turkey roll story is great - I just had friend visiting and she doesn't cook much either and she told us that she left her hubby with packages of turkey rolls last time she went out of town - he ate so many he had gout in his big toe!!!! So tell Clay to cool it!

What's a turkey roll? It it has stuffing in it, count me in! Mark and I had this "deep" discussion a while ago, if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life for breakfast lunch and dinner, what would it be? I chose stuffing and gravy. I could probably also survive on french fries and guac :)

Remember, this comes from a non cook. They are like a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, etc spread on a large tortilla , rolled, with cut into pieces. Sort of look like a jelly roll when cut, but actually a turkey sandwich on a tortilla. Once I bought their version of a BLT turkey roll. Not good. Stick with the turkey.

tonight was grilling and chillin' salmon ( Costco salmon) ..nice
place it on a huge bed of fresh rosemary and dill ( you make a mound of it ..with a hit of olive oil on it..also olive oil s & p on the salmon) then barbeque it for a bit.. not too long..then do a flip ( but on foil) back on the grill.. delicious.. Cambria chardy a mango, peach, watermelon, salsa and garlic mashed potatoes

That Costco Salmon (About $5.00 per lb) is as good as the gourmet markets. And Katherine's Cambria Chardonnay is an excellent Chardonnay for $15.00 a bottle. one of our faves.
I did the Shrimp, Chopped Tomatoes, Basil, olive oil and garlic over Angel Hair.. Yum! Sonoma Cutrer to sip.

Our dinner went wrong! No Chinese afterall. Tom pulled a surprise and went to Alberton's (probably like Publix) and bought "skirt steak". He said he remembered eating it often (not on Fridays of course) as a kid since it was cheap. Well we threw it on the bar-b-que but it didn't come good. It was too tough and chewey. Maybe tomorrow night....Chinese!

I am going to a BBQ at a friends house on Sunday, any suggestions as to what I can bring along with me? Claudia, you always have great recipes, any ideas?
I need something that can transport well and I am trying to think of something new and fun, I can't bear to look at another pasta salad :)

Actually, Karen for a crowd..there is a great fruit salad that I make that is yummy and easy..you might try this one ..
It's melon and peach salad
2 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced 2 cups fresh cantaloupes, peeled and diced 2 cups fresh honeydew melon, peeled and diced 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons orange juice 2 tablespoons sugar 1/4 cup slivered almonds this makes about 4 to 6 servings so I usually make about 6 cups of each fruit and then adjust the other things..chill before serving..

We're heading out to a restaurant serving good old southern country cooking - the best fried chicken, rice and gravy, creamed peas, big biscuits with butter & honey, and yummy cole slaw - they just keep keep bringing it out as long as you keep eating -

Everyones menu sounds so good today. I had another lazy day, chili dogs on the grill and french fries, served with a Coors Lite!
Edited to add, I am taking Claudia's peachy salad and marinated Greek olives to the party tomorrow.

I THINK this is my first post on this thread, not sure (I cook very little). Just got back from my brother and SIL's house next door and had the best dinner out on their terrace. Beautiful sunset, and then bro came home with crabs (really big, fat and heavy), and steamed shrimp, and Robin had local corn on the cob that was to die for! We talked about MUSH and how far it still is away. Nothing better than Chesapeake Bay crabs this time of year. Yummy!
