I've been listening to the news this morning about all the very bad weather in midwest and east coast. I sure hope you are all safe and in the warm and comfy indoors. Take care all!!!

We have bright sunshine, but suddenly the wind is gusting pretty badly.
Mark is taking a nap, I just looked outside and our pool cover is in the process of blowing off. It had blown off LAST week, they just replaced it YESTERDAY (with several new water-filled bags, at my insistence) and now it's blowing off again. Argh!

Cyndi, we are working on a foot of snow. It has drifted about almost 1/2 way up the windows (the windows are at ground level) and the wind hasn't even kicked up yet! They are predicting the winds to howl this evening, so that will be a treat. Mark hasn't even attempted to snowblow the driveway yet, he is waiting til the morning as neither one of us will attempt to leave the house today.
All my friends on the east coast, you are next so stay safe and warm!

Cyndi -
It's like a winter wonderland out there! Todd and I ran around this morning doing our errands then headed home. We're in for the duration. I'm about to make hot cocoa and enjoy the view!
(Mind you, when the dogs start whining to go out, I may feel differently.) :)
I feel bad for the folks with game tickets tomorrow. They're announcing that the fans will have to sweep off their own seats, but they won't have anywhere to put the snow! They'll likely end up with their legs in the snow the whole game. They are suggesting that folks wear waterproof gear, take blankets, etc. The wind chill factor is supposed to be below zero.
Hope everyone is safe and warm,
Kathy

It was minus 17 when we got up. They've upped the snow forecast to 20 inches. Light those fireplaces!

Bill, did you make your onion soup? I just put an apple pie in the oven, being stuck in the house makes me domestic :)

Its been snowing here since about 11:00, we are predicted for only 6-9", my daughter in Boston called this morning and said they were predicting 20" or more. Frank is in a non walking cast for 6 more weeks or so, but he lined up the high school kid across the street to come over tomorrow and shovel for us, I'm sure not doing it!! We have the fire going and its cozy and warm in the house. Ill be opening the bottle of wine in a couple of hours or so. Pam - our son lives near Nashville, in fact right by, I think its skicruiser, whose in Franklin, so we get your way now and then. Bill and Nancy - nice to see your new avitar, now I'll know what you look like when you board the Voyager in Monte Carlo in Sept. Take care all - for those up North - stay warm and safe.

I try to catch the Weather Channel at the top of each hour to see who is getting hit next. I am sure this will make for a cozy day tomorrow to watch the football games. AND hopefully your streets will be cleared by Monday.
Has everyone made their grocery and video store runs? Time is running out.

The snowplows made it here by 11:30 this morning. I did have to run out and buy butter so I could bake cookies for the church's annual meeting tomorrow. Other than that, I am staying in by the fire and baking up a storm. Hope all you east coast people are staying safe, as well.

Is the worst over yet? What a blizzard!! You all are getting hit so hard.
I was wondering about the games today too. But it looks like they are carrying on with everything. What a cold mess. Get the fires going today and stay warm at home, watching the playoffs.

Here in New Hampshire, its either over or just a lull. We have about 30 inches new snow on the ground with drifts well in excess of four feet.
Although we are used to getting snow, this is one of the worst blizzards in New England history.
Tip: No matter where you live, if you care about the weather, get great weather forecasts from WeatherBug.com. I believe it is a free download. It runs in background mode on your PC and alerts you to storm conditions as well as providing you with real time weather forecasts. It's really good!!!

Bill, Quite a few of the computer nerds advise against using Weatherbug as they consider it spyware, even though the company says it's not. It is also reported to cause problems with your computer. If you notice nothing unusual, then I bet all the warnings about it are just hype. I subscribe to Weather Underground ($5 a year) and I get alerts through them. I think they have the best radar as it is real-time.

We've been watching the news and reading the paper to stay informed of those awful snow storms.
Hope all who are affected are OK, safe and warm.

We're all plowed here by now. Wind chills are brutal and the dogs, of course, are totally confused. Their usual "spots" are now covered with drifting snow which reaches way over their heads. Todd actually had to shovel a huge circle in the yard so they could go out. :)
We haven't been out since yesterday noon and are about to sit down for the pre-game and then the championship games.
I had to share though. You know how we all hear so much bad about human nature on the news. Well, every now and then, you hear a story which shows just how giving people can be. Remember my post yesterday about the state of Lincoln field for the Eagles game? More than 750 unpaid volunteers worked ALL NIGHT to shovel out the stadium. I can't even imagine what that must have been like in those brutal wind chills. They did a phenomenal job, as you'll see on the TV today. All of the fans at the game owe them big-time. If it had been up to Jeff Lurie, the Eagles owner, the fans who couldn't afford the luxury boxes would have been allowed to get frostbite. He's not the most generous of team owners, to say the least. :(
I'm not an Eagles fan, to be honest, so good luck to all the LCTers who have teams in the games today!!!!
Staying warm and safe and hoping all of the others affected by the storm are able to do the same.
Kathy

We had our heaviest one day snowfall of the season yesterday - 9.4 inches. That brought our season total up above 45 inches. We were plowed out Saturday mid-afternoon but awoke to a 3 foot drift at out garage door this morning. We did some shoveling and then drove to church. When we got home after lunch they were just plowing our driveway. (We live in a condo.)
My brother-in-law and nephew are getting well frozen at the Eagles/Falcons game as I type.

We had about 10" of snow, lots of wind (snow drifts) and some minor flooding with coastal tides (full moon is 1/25; worst possible time for nor'easters). Instead of dry, powdery snow it was fairly wet, so the power lines were drooping (along with the birch trees) dangerously until the wind picked up enough to dump the excess accumulation.
Homemade corn chowder with crawfish is on the menu here, along with a nice Riesling. For dessert, Ciao Bella raspberry sorbet with raspberry flavored chocolate sauce - unreal how good it is!!
Eagles won for Gary and the Blue Demons won all their b-ball games this weekend (men & women) for me. All in all, could have been one heck of a lot worse. Cheers, Anne

Gil and I faired very well during the storm. Of course we were walking along the beach in 70+ weather during the worst of it. ;) (actually I kept worrying about my family back home the whole time.)
Only bad part? was coming home to all the snow and cold last night.
