I know I've come to you before with similar requests. My sister Kathy (a few of you have sailed with her) has been in the hospital since the 16th. Orignally just gall bladder problems, now the pancreas is involved and they can't do any surgery until the pancreatitus (sp?) is under control. No solid food since she went in, and they are finally putting some nutition in her IV to try to get her stable. I'm working on getting to Delaware to be with her this week - I have Navy inspections all week so it's tricky.

Doctors are at a loss as to why they can't get the pancreas problem under control.

Pardon my spelling - I'm off to Mayo.com to try to get a handle on the info her partner is giving us. And thanks for listening.

Sue, I’m so sorry to hear of your sister's health problems. I'll pray that this gets solved soon and that you will have a safe trip out to visit her and be able to see her get better.

We have a friend whose wife had to take him to urgent care on Nov. 8th due to some severe pain. Tests showed an inflamed pancreas. They did surgery to remove his gall bladder the following day. Subsequent MRI showed no stones left anywhere and his pancreas had returned to normal. It was a little mysterious how he recovered so soon following the surgery but his family is just very grateful for all the prayers that came his way.

Just thought I'd update all you wonderful people. Kathy has been in the hospital since the 16th of November and is not leaving anytime soon. Her lipase (sp) levels have decreased fromn 10s of thousands to the 700s but that is still way too high. They've taken her off clear liquids and she only can have ice chips. Her kidneys did recover and we're no longer worried on that count. Her pain level now is at a 5-6 instead of the 8-9 it was averaging last week which is a great relief. Waiting on more test results today. Her partner spends 10-12 hours a day with her, and is exhausted as well. Please keep them both (Kathy and Rachel) in your prayers. I am so grateful I had the chance to see her. Meant to update from there but time got away from me.

Thanks everyone! It means a lot. Evidently they are going to try to drain some excess fluid off the pancreas today or tomorrow. They can't figure out why her numbers aren't getting any better.

Thanks for the many thoughts and prayers. Thought I would update you all (now that I have power - darn ice storm!) Kathy has developed an infection of some sort in the hospital and they are dealing with that as well as the pancreatitis. Once they fix the infection they are hoping she can go home with a daily nurse visit to gain enough strength to go back for surgery. It's been a long haul, and we keep thinking positive and praying that she has the strength to beat all this.

Good newws! Kathy is going home. All nutrition, meds and such will stay via IV and the nurse will stop by daily to monitor her condition. They hope she will gain strength more quickly at home. Ice chips are all she can have through probably mid-January when they think she will be strong enough for surgery. Thanks so much for your support and prayers, and please keep her recovery in your hearts. Prayers do work miracles!!
