Because the Colonel has assisted me in several personal matters, it has enabled me to peer over his shoulder a time or two and what I saw recently is that on April 7, at Ft. Benning, Ga., our Colonel with be inducted in the Army's Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame.

I can just imagine all the pomp and circumstance that will take place that day.

Colonel, I salute you!

Cheers! Ray

Beat me to it, Ray!! It's quite a privilege & honor to make this Honor Roll, let me tell you!! Officer Candidate School (OCS) is one of the tougher ways to get your commission as an Officer. (Think SGT Carter & Gomer Pyle scenario - where he's in your face!! I equated my time there with that impression - Basic Training Revisited (since you first went to Basic Training at some time in your life) - but only twice as bad!!!) It's a constant test of your abilities to handle pressure and stress, on how much you could take, and your abilities to lead and react under the toughest of conditions (and that was just to receive your commission - the fallout rate was more than 50%). Few have this honor - and no one deserves it more than Wes, for he has surpassed all the diverse challenges the military requires of you - with distinct professionalism, exceptional talent, and pure natural abilities. Knowing both Wes and Ida as I do - they have sacrificed a lot in their military careers (none more than constantly being seperated!! Unbelievable what they went thru!!), and both were very successful (both professionally and personnally - a testament to the bond and support of a true marriage!!) Wes - again, the heartiest of CONGRATS to someone who truly deserves it - will definately try to be there (altho Ft Benning (School of Boys - Ha Ha) has never held the best of memories for me!!) We'll break out the Bubbly!!

I can't help but note that, from your picture here, you look very young to be a Colonel! Makes me wonder how long it will be before we are saying "General Wes!"

Am truly overwhelmed by everyone's well wishes,
thank you very much...if you are in/near Atlanta
on April 7th-8th (it is a two day affair at
Ft. Benning, GA (near Columbus, GA--about an hour+
drive from Atlanta) you are cordially invited
to attend the induction ceremony on the 8th.

Can promise you good eats/drinks...cause we will celebrate my upcoming retirment on 1 July too.

Colonel

Re your invitation, I'm going to start looking into that possibility as I would enjoy meeting you and being a witness to your induction.

AirTrans flies direct from Canton to Atlanta plus I have a retired railroad boss living in Atlanta who I would like to see again.

When my former boss and I were playing a round of golf one day, I asked him about his limp and it was then that I learned he was shot in the hip and then thru the mouth when in Italy in WWII. He is such a tall gangly chap I'm sure that is why he took two hits. He left the Army as a Capt.

I'll keep in touch.

Cheers! Ray

Mi Coronel,

Wow, Ms. Marie's backstory sure does add that extra layer of infromation we would have never known about. And to top it off, a great love story with Ida too (but that is evident from your pictures and how you express yourself about her)!! Heartfelt and sincere congrats!!

Congratulations Wes, I know it's a big deal.

After looking over your resume it appears that we might have served in the same command.
I was in Schweinfurt in the 32AADCOM from 86 to 87. Then went on to USACIDC for the rest of my enlistment.

Wes,
What exciting news! I know you worked hard to achieve this and how nice your peers have recognized your efforts. Couldn't have happened to a nicer person. Glad to consider you on online buddy. How fortunate we are to have you as part of our military and also to be part of our LCT circle.

John, during 85-88 I was at Goeppingen, Germany with the Big Red One, alhto you probably served with my very close mentor, MG (Ret) Rusty Dyer. Was that old crusty CSM Godfrin, the 32nd CSM?..I did not get to 32nd until 94-95 when I was a Patriot Bn XO in Kaiserslautern with 1-7 ADA..great memories..

And to everyone else who took time to say congrats, thank you.

Ray...if you can make it, Ida and I would love for Penny and you to share our house with us when you're in Atlanta. I believe Ms. Marie will be with us too (the more the merrier)..pls note that we will have to stay overnite in Columbus, Georgia (near Ft. Benning) on the 7th of April..as we have an induction dinner that nite
and the induction ceremony on the 8th.

Wow, how tempting. I hope we can do it.

Penny is currently in England visiting her Mum (her birthday)and will be back next week and we'll talk it over. It sure looks doable though.
