So, I'm confused about Gold Points. What are they? Are they useful? Can you get them for 2-for-1 cruises? (I vaguely remember hearing before that you couldn't). I'm trying to figure out whether I should register for the program before my Navigator 2-for-1 cruise coming up.

After your first cruise you will earn 10 points for every dollar spent on the "cruise fare" not the land or air portions JUST the cruise fare. When you get 50,000 points ($5000 spent) you get $200 off the next cruise. You can also earn and use points for other prizes as well within the Carlson companies. Friday's is a Carlson company for instance.

A family only needs ONE card as if there is one card in the cabin that card gets points for both people. This way you build up points faster.

Some like to have two cards if they are active in any special offerings that gold points has - like "give us your new email address and we give you gold points" Not major promotions usually.

However you cant combine the husband and wifes points unless you get a "household" account which in turn results in ONE card.

No gold points on 2 for 1 cruises Maskai so it wont hurt to get one but you wont gain points this time. The first cruise is only 5 points per dollar but this cruise will at least qualify you for the 10 points a dollar level.

Redemption is EASY. You just tell your TA how many points you have and the TA takes it from there.

You can enroll on line at www.goldpoints.com

Building rewards up faster sounds good. And I'm the only one in the family who does Gold Points shopping anyway.

Download the "household account application" from the web site; instructions for submitting are there, too.

Thanks, Ngaire.

Thanks guys! At least now I know. Maybe I'll sign up in the future. Doesn't sound like there's any rush right now ...

So if I pay for a cruise for the whole family, do I get all the points? Or should other family members get numebrs to get their points?

it's actually 500 points...just go into your member profile and change your e-mail address. They will add the points to your acct!

Thanks, Sheri! 5,000 would have been nice, but I'll take 500!

Sue: If you get a "household" account where all family members have the SAME address then you can use one card number for all the cabins. If the family members live elsewhere then you need different cards.

For those who have the goldpoints credit card, here is an easy way to get quite a few points and you look like a hero : the online flower shops (FTD for instance) affiliated with the card routinely offer 100 points per dollar spent. Flowers to your SO and viola 4000 - 5000+ easy points!

Thanks Ngaire! I knew you would know the answer. Thought I could stock up - I'll settle for the Am-Ex points for everyone.

I shopped through them for many Xmas presents & also had flowers sent. Sometimes FTD & some of the others have free delivery and/or shipping, so this can help plus you are getting all those points. Then put it on a credit card that gives FF miles & it is lots of bonuses. During Dec my friends sure got tired of hearing be babble on about getting points or miles or both for most purchases. Just my small flower bill gave me enough Goldpts to top getting an extra $200 off the Norway Fjords cruise this summer & hopefully those cruise points will give me enough for another credit on my Dec cruise. I also use their credit card at times.

Yeah, but Masaki, isn't it worth it to sign up now and get the 5 points for every $ versus blowing them off? Or did I miss the part about retro cruises counting?

Robert - all my cruises that I've booked with RSSC have been 2-for-1 specials ... i.e, none of them count for gold point accumulation. :) I wish!

Masaki,
I believe that the point here is if you sign up now, eventhough you will not accumulate points for the cruises you have booked, that in the future if you book a non 2-for-1 then you would get the 10 points for every $...if you wait to sign up when you go on your first non 2-for-1 cruise then that cruise will only be 5 points for every $...

Ronnie - didn't realize that it made a difference as to when you actually signed up. That's a good reason to sign up now then. Thanks!
