Debbie I have stayed in Copenhagen twice before boarding cruises - Radisson SAS & the Marriott. Both were nice hotels but I much prefered the Marriott over Radisson. Rooms at the Marriott were nicer & I loved the heated bathroom floor. Comfortable bed & soft linens were also nice. Both hotels are close to the city - you can walk if you don't mind a small hike. Neither is what I would call close to the airport, but the airport is not way out either. I can't remember what I paid for a taxi to the airport, quessing about $25 US, but the taxis take credit cards which I found to be a wonderful service & everyone I encountered in the city spoke English. You will enjoy the city.

Hi,
I also stayed at a Radisson hotel but I'm not sure if it was the same as Betty's since mine was right in town( in front of Tivoli gardens which are a lot of fun!). I believe the hotel is called SAS Royal. Smallish rooms but functional.
The airport is close to the city, around 20-25 dollars, and approx. 20 mins to get there.

My husband and I planned a post-cruise stay in Copenhagen with Ngaire and Ken, and Leslie and Brad (friends/fellow LCTers). At our request, the Concierge at the Copenhagen Marriott, where we stayed, arranged a private driver to pick us up at the ship. He took us to the hotel to check in and drop off our luggage. He then drove us to see the castles located on the outskirts of Copenhagen, which were really great. He then dropped us off in the center of the city to wander on our own. We had one really lovely day in Copenhagen. The driver was very congenial and knowledgeable. If you are limited for sightseeing time, this may be the direction you'd prefer to take to get in as much touring as possible. You can contact the Concierge prior to your trip and have it all arranged ahead of time.
We were very pleased with the accommodations and services provided by the Copenhagen Marriott. Transport from the hotel to the airport was close and not terribly expensive. We shared a driver with Ngaire and Ken who were leaving at the same time as we were to catch very early flights. The Concierge can arrange a taxi or private driver for your transport from the hotel to the airport at any time you wish to leave the following morning.
Denise
Retired and loving it!

We stayed at the Hilton at the Airport. Took cab out and rode train back into town to spend the rest of the day. Took train back to airport/hotel after dinner. Hotel was very nice and catching our plane the next morning was a breeze. Greg

We stayed at the Sophie Amalie Hotel in 2002. It was recommended in Rick Steves' book. Good location near the harbor and Nyhavn. (Pay cash and you get 10% off.) www.remmen.dk

We also stayed at the Marriott in Copenhagen and felt it was a lovely hotel. We could walk to everything. It had a lovely view of the river. Ask for a river view.
We ate at the SAS Radisson Royal and had a great dinner in their rooftop restaurant.

I agree with Andi about the Radisson rooftop. Also great for just having an after dinner drink. My biggest complaint with this hotel is that they have an electrical voltage problem. Fried my electric rollers even with the converter. Have heard horror stories of it happening to others at this hotel. One man had his electric wheelchair fried. Don't remember if this story is posted somewhere on LCT or CC. And the rooms at the Marriott are much nicer.

Another nice thing about the Marriott is that you can take a boat tour right from their "dock".

Just tried the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel for after our Baltics cruise and it's unavailable as were a couple of others. Any other suggestions or can someone tell me if there is something of importance happening there early July.

Lee - I did a July search for events - there's a rock festival from June 29 to July 2 and then a jazz festival July 7 - 16. Are your dates during that time period?
just an fyi - when I first looked at the Marriott rates last year, they were really high. I checked again a few months prior to the trip and got a great rate, so it pays to keep checking.

Does anyone recommend hotels other than the giant chains for Scandinavia RSSC stops (Stockholm and Copenhagen)? Any boutique hotels worth the visit. I can stay at a Marriott in the US. Although the beds are dependable, the local flavor is missing. Plus the prices for the Marriott and the SAS are outrageous, even at European prices.

Mpbear - There is a good discussion about hotels in both cities on the "copenhagen and stockholm hotels" thread on this chat board from about a year ago. Some of the non-chain hotels in Copenhagen, such as Sophie Amalie and 71 Nyhavn are discussed, along with the Radisson and Marriott properties. Cheers, Fred

We initially booked 71 Nyhavn but I changed to the Marriott because Ngaire & Ken and Denise & Alan were staying there.
Nyhavn is quite a bustling area with lots of sidewalk cafes, bars etc. Looked like it could be a noisy location. 71 Nyhavn is down at the very end so it might not be so bad. Fred you stayed there, right? Check out reviews at tripadvisor.com for more ideas.

A rock concert ending July 2 in Copenhagen. Drats!
No wonder I'm finding "no room" at desired locations for July 1.

Ray - Don't know if it's up to your standard, but we're booked in at the Admiral Hotel in Nyhavn. Michael found it just by researching - but at least you'll have good company!! Lee

Hi Lee:
We finally wound up at the Hilton, airport, and since our flight is at 6:05a.m. am told we can just drag our luggage from the hotel.
I do remember the Nyhavn area as Penny and I walked from the Radisson Hotel to the ship in June 2004 and enjoyed how colorful that area is.
We're looking forward to mtg. you and your son at the cocktail party.
Cheers! Ray

OK, it's a long way till June '07, but has anybody stayed at either the St.Petri, or D'Angleterre in Copenhagen? The RSSC hotels for our cruise are the SAS Royal, and the two above. We'll be doing a 2 day pre-cruise. Sounds as if the SAS rooms are a bit small, but a lot of European hotels are that way.

I looked them up on Tripadvisor.
Mixed for SKT Petrie but very good for D'Angleterre. However, there were only two reviews for D'Angleterre and at least ten for Petrie. I have always found Tripadvisor a good indication of what to expect. Some negatives may not be negatives for you and the positives may not matter to you.
Skt Petrie...
Copenhagen: Hotel Skt Petri: "Overated and poor value" Jun 6, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto, Canada Compare prices with:
My experience with this hotel took place in: May, 2006 I traveled to this hotel with: spouse/partner I recommend this hotel for: business travelers My visit was for: extended vacation Would I stay at this location again: probably not As a design hotel with a 5 STAR rating, this was a disappointment in several areas. Let's start with check-in. They had 2 people (one a trainee) checking in 6 guests. It took about 20 minutes and after a long flight, it felt like an hour. The room was nice and as described in their offering. We had opted for a "MAKE LOVE" package which included breakfast in your room (you could NOT have breakfast in the dining room!) The breakfast was ok-took between 20-30 minutes to be delivered and one morning the room service waiter said they forgot which room we were in! Don't they track phone calls from rooms in these hotels?
Whe we asked for facial tissues (there are none in the rooms), we were told to use "bathroom tissues" Ouch! Also as part of the package we had wonderful candles in the room...but they took them away on night # 2 and they reappeared on night 3 (after we reminded them that we were staying for 4 x nights).AT one point housekeeping suggested we talk it over with reception-why one asks?
When we shared our frustrations with the Manager, we were basically told that they are human and that staff recruiting is really tough in DENMARK. Well at $300+ a night, our expectations were a little higer than what we got.
On a positive, the Concierge was very helpful and made some excellent recommendations for sight seeing and restaurants
We have stayed at several Design Hotels in Europe and this was a 6 out of 10 overall. We would not stay there again
Another review... I spent three mid week nights at the hotel as part of a business trip. Contrary to some of the previous comments, I found the staff at the hotel both helpful and friendly, particularly in the bar. The hotel had a modern, cool feel to it, and my room did seem to have a trendy feel.
The bed in the room was remarkably comfortable which made getting up in the morning difficult!
The hotel's central location meant that it was easy to walk to various restaurants in the city centre, and most of the attractions were easily reached on foot.
My only dining experience in the hotel was breakfast, which was a large, standard buffet, which was nice, but not exceptional.
I would definitely stay again at the hotel, on business or leisure
Traveler rating: Copenhagen: Hotel Skt Petri: "Pleasant Stay!" May 11, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, el cerrito Compare prices with: My experience with this hotel took place in: March, 2006 My visit was for: extended vacation Would I stay at this location again: most likely Skt Petri is stylishly Danish– warm colors, blonde woods, and modern. Luxurious it is NOT, but the staff is exceedingly nice and helpful. And our room, though spartan was cheerful, clean, and comfortable. Excellent location.
There was only one problem– the concierge booked our plane tickets for the wrong month. It took weeks before we were refunded the money. There were moments when we did not think we would see the credit on our credit card; our phone calls were not returned, and we were ready to take the matter up with our credit card company.
D'Angleterre..
To meet the former president of the United States, Mr. Clinton in the lobby was a bonus, to my stay at the Hotel D’Angleterre Hotel in Copenhagen. On my way back from a wonderful dinner in the restaurant Mr. Clinton arrived, this was truly the highlight of my entire trip. Further more my room, was nicely decorated in old, classic style. I travel around 150 days a year and was very happy to experience the comfort, and yet relaxed atmosphere. This was a “home away from homeâ€. I will surly stay at the Hotel D’Angleterre when I pass Copenhagen. The SPA and gym is magnificent.
My wife and I stayed at the D´Angleterre for three nights and we were sad to leave. The welcoming we received was outstanding. We arrived early, our room was not ready, but instead of letting us fend for ourselves, we were treated to tea and cookies in the lounge. Nothing beats a cup of tea, in a comfy chair, beside a crackling fire. The Location is great if you love to shop. It's just around the corner from the pedestrian, and multitudes of chic boutiques and fantastic shopping venues in the area. The Concierge's were about the best we've seen. Small or large requests were handled with "My pleasure". Our room - 104, was beautiful. The decor richly simple and elegant. We are very picky hotel persons and we loved everything about this place.

We really liked the Marriott. Make sure you request a smoking or non-smoking room and a water view, which is lovely. While the hotel is very nice, the non -water view is not nice.

We are in the Scandic Webers Copenhagen for the 21st and 22nd, a couple of blocks away. Newly renovated hotel only 100 meters from Tivoli Gardens. In addition, only 10,000 Hilton Honor Points a night (as long as you get certificate prior to 1 October).

We used the bathrooms in the D'angleterre last summer.... it is in a great location, but didn't see the rooms.
We are booked at the Mariott for the 22nd. Last year we booked a promotional rate and got a non-water view, while Denise and Ngaire got water views. Rooms are nice, but it would definitely be better with the water view.

We used Marriott points to book June 22 at Marriott Copenhagen in a deluxe room as the nicer rooms just used up too many points. The pictures of the deluxe room looked very nice and we plan on spending most time outdoors looking around anyways.
Once you can book July 2007 we will book a night for July 7 as the flights back to Atlanta all depart in the morning and there is no way we'd make an 11 a.m. flight.

I think quite a few of us are now at the Scandic Webers Hotel thanks to Marc telling us about the 10,000 Hilton point special. We applied for the AmEx HH credit card to get our 10,000 points so it works out to be a freebie! Marc & Arlene, Olivia, Joanna & Tony, Tom & me...others?
It sounds like between the Marriott and the Hilton we're all at one or the other. Both hotels look great!
