Help!!!! We are just in the planning stages for our trip to Paris, Rome and Venice this August and need hotel suggestions for Venice as this is a new destination for us. We will be at the Bristol in Paris and the De Russie in Rome.

Doris, Not sure if you have Starwood points but each time we've stayed in Venice we've redeemed points and stayed at the Westin Europa & Regina or Hotel Danieli. They are both WONDERFUL and such good locations! We've never paid for rooms and I imagine they're very expensive (everything in Venice is) so it's a great place to redeem points. I vouch for the Daneli. Get a room in the old bulding eithe rfacing the grand canal or one with a window to the side canal (unless you don't find gondoliers singing past your room at night romantic...different strokes for different folks!!)
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends ~~M. Angelou~~

Have only stayed at the Europa & Regina. It was absolutely wonderful. Was upgraded :app: to a junior suite on the canal. Pure heaven!!! Also, the included continental breakfast was over the top!

We will be in Venice for two nights post cruise in October, used Starpoints for the Danieli, saving a bundle... Very excited first time in Venice...

Frank, this is great! Like Bonnie said, request a room facing the Grand Canal. It was great fun watching the action especially early in the morning when people are arriving for work and boats are full of supplies for the day.

Thanks everyone, we don't have enough points on Starwood as we just got our cards in March...Still looking for hotel options, we don't have to make a choice for another week as Venice seems to be quiet the end of July. I have been told that many places in Italy close for the month of July so that may be the reason. Air prices are over the top and we are working on a promo deal, if it goes through we are off to Italy, if not, will find an adventure in the U.S. A.

Many hotels in Italy lower their prices beginning in late July and August. August is the month when a lot of restaurants and smaller shops close as it's the month when Italians take vacation.
Check Hotel Metropole in Venice . It's a very good hotel and is offering decent rates beginning in late July. That's where we are staying.
You're right that air prices were over the top this year. I shudder every time I think what we are paying for our tickets! I'm flying out in late July.

We just booked our trip. The end of August is when the air fares were affordable. We are booked at the Luna in Venice, De Russie in Rome which we love and the San Regis ? in Paris. Would love some feedback on the Venice and Paris hotels and also some restaurants in Venice and Paris. More like bistros and cafes than fancy places because I plan to pack light and not dress for dinner if possible, no jacket or ties. Thanks everyone...

De Russie in Rome is wonderful. Have read about Luna from their website it looks good, but I have never stayed there.
