Had a 2 night stay at Lapa Palace in Lisbon prior to our 21 Oct 2011 Silver Spirit cruise. One of the best hotels in the world IMHO and we've stayed at some good ones. Rooms, service and food are all superb.

It sure is a gorgeous hotel, Doug. We had a balcony room overlooking the garden and pool prior to our Silver Wind cruise in 06.

I was thinking of this Hotel before our Oceania cruise next September but it looked a little out of the way? Never been to Lisbon so I have no real sense of the "lay of the land." Doug, did you find it easy enuf to get to the sites? ------------------ Helen

Helen, From what I remember, the Lapa Palace is on a little hill. It's a walk to one of the museums. In 90, we stayed at the Hotel Avendia Palace is close to more stores, restaurants and the main part of the city. We liked it a lot also. Look on TripAdvisor for reviews, as it's been some time since I've been there. Much more walkable area though.

Lapa Palace is a bit removed from the central part of Lisbon, since it's in the embassy district. However, taxis are quite reasonable in Lisbon. If you're only going to be in the city for a couple of days I would highly recommend a stay there. It's quiet, the rooms are lovely, the grounds are beautiful and the food/service is impeccable. Just relax and enjoy! We had been to Lisbon several times, so that's just what we did.

LOL Doug, sadly "relaxing" is just not in my nature. Sounds like my husband's ideal way of spending a few days but I am compelled to run around in a frantic neurotic race to see everything before I die ;) -------- Helen

Why not just have the hotel arrange a tour for you?
