If we don't like official ship excursions (and we don't...), whatever shall we do in St. Tropez? Karen? Did you just wander around town? I know you've been there. Anybody else?

And what about Marseilles? Bonifacio? Does anyone have any ideas for these destinations? We've left it a bit late, we leave quite soon.....but any input will be greatly appreciated. Even if it is "an official ship excursion" that you actually enjoyed and recommend!

Charlene, we couldn't tender to St. Tropez due to rough seas so I can't help you!!!

We just wandered around St. Tropez on our own, looking in shops, walking up and down and around the little alleys and along the waterfront. My husband climbed all the way up to and went thru the Citadel. We had lunch and a restaurant along the waterfront while ooogoling all the fantastic yachts in the harbor and spotted George Hamilton right in front of us. Its just a really pretty, charming and delightful town.

In Marseille we took the Aix en Provence tour, so didn't see much of Marseille. Next time though we would definitely just wander around on our own and maybe stop for some bouillibase along the waterfront and such.

Haven't been to Bonifacio, so no help there.

It's been a few yrs. since we were there (in St. Tropez), but we enjoyed just hanging out in the dock area. Lots of shops and sidewalk dining places.
Great place for people watching!!! Beautiful boats and beautiful people abound!!!!

JoAnn and Betty, that is EXACTLY what I wanted to hear. I was hoping St. Tropez was just a charming place to wander about aimlessly, perhaps hike to a Citadel for a tour, sip a drink, have some lunch, people watch etc. Whew! Of course, thanks to Karen, I now have to worry that we won't be able to get in there - LOL. I'm sorry that happened to you, Karen, tha's always a bummer.

I think I'll wander around both St. Tropez and Marseilles - and I'll tell you what Bonifacio was all about when I get back.

Marseilles was great for lunch along the harbour. We took a car and driver and toured Casis in the morning...Wonderful charming little town with great shopping and very friendly people. We would love to go back there.

Charlene...my memories of St. Tropez were a lot like St. Bart! Same ambiance etc. Enjoy!

St. Tropez is a great place for walking around and people watching.

You might also want to go to the Annonciade Museum (aka Art Museum of St. Tropez) which has works by Matisse, Seurat, Signac, Bonnard and others. Not a large collection by any means but quite good actually.

Louisette Durand owns it..she speaks English as good as we all ( most of us) speak French....lol..but she is FABULOUs..her website will give you an ideas of where she can take you in the time you have.. there is NOTHING special in Marseille..but Cassis is pretty for lunch or do a day in Provence you will have a fabulous time.
