It all depends on your point of view but I think going from Shanghai works fine.

Actually some people have had positive comments about Dalian and even though it is a short stop you dont miss this port this way. Most people do feel it is a nothing port.

It is as Eugene says really no loss in Shanghai and just really miss a day at sea. When we did it we went from Shanghai.
