I may well be misinterpreting the following sentence, which appears right after the one you quote.

"Full fare adult guests achieve Society Membership on their second sailing, including all applicable benefits."

I read this to mean that one would not get full membership benefits (read, discounts on future cruise) until AFTER the second cruise. However, it may also be interpreted as granting these benefits FOR the second cruise. This is why I asked.
