Aaah, little Petra. Regent had an outdoor dinner for us and the setting was quite nice but the weather turned brutally cold and a number of people were removing chair coverings so they could cover themselves with them. There was also a shortage of restrooms. Regardless it was an interesting experience and one we still smile about.

The 36-day fight that took place in February and March 1945 resulted in the U.S. capturing the South Pacific island and its three strategic airfields.
The battle was notable for the fierce and bloody fighting that killed more than 6,800 American troops and left more than 18,000 wounded.
It was immortalized on Feb. 23, 1945, by Joe Rosenthal's photo of five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the American flag atop Mount Suribachi, the highest point on the island.
On February 23, 2008, Penny and I were on a world cruise and we anchored at Iwo Jima for a special memorial program. The atmosphere of the day was quite moving and I
