Okay, I apparently had to be on a Windows computer to use those preferences. I managed, but it was a pain. Your IT guy may need to check on Mac ability.
I don't have a mac available here right now, but I have tested the UBB with MacOSX with no problems before... .
I am on several UBB chat boards and this is the only one where I encountered that glitch. The message said something like "it appears this request was made through the wrong forum" or something like that. I got on my husband's Windows computer and fixed it.
