Bette, the Dominican Republic, especially the Punta Cana area, is very very relaxing. I would suggest Secrets Excellence, Paradisus or Riu Palace. Secrets is adult only, no children, so it is really quiet.

I have stayed at Riu Palace, which was probably the most relaxing vacation I have ever taken. We sat on the gorgeous beach under a palm tree for a week :)
All three of these resorts are all-inclusive. Secrets has the most ala carte restaurants of the three mentioned. Paradisus has the better casino and Riu Palace has great public rooms and probably the prettiest beach I have ever seen.

Don't let those pictures fool you, the people in those brochures must be from another planet as they are all so perfect!!
