I'm clean as a whistle! Now that I've run McAfee virus, adaware, spybot, downloaded and used Micrsoft Anti Spyware Beta, and Panda Active Scan, I'm finished with computer cleaning. Did I overdo it?

Karen, as long as nothing was found, any reason for me to go looking for trojans with the A2trojan remover?

And, I have been receiving funny emails this week, too. Most go to my junk mail and I never open, especially when there is indication of an attachment.

Also, I don't use Outlook because I've always thought it created vulnerabilities to computer security. However, being the organized person that I am, I think I would like to use it. Any opinions? I already use a pda with palm software.

Thanks!

Donna

I love Outlook and I have Chapura's link so when I synchronize with my Palm it has the same data. You would not use the Palm address book if you did that.

A trick I learned about using Outlook for your address book is to put a character in your email address like an astrisk at the end of the name (ie karen@brownandkeene.com*) so that emails would bounce back to you if you did get one of those worms who hijack your address book. The worm won't spread. If you send a lot of email you have to delete the astrisk every time, but, it's preventative because you know right away.

I don't know what I'm doing right. But with MSN combined with Adware and Norton. I'm not having any problems, yet.

Donna, I don't think you need to worry if all the scans came out negative.

Like Kathy, I love Outlook, too. It's just so easy. Some of my beloved friends who use AOL's mail program( not mentioning any names, Joanna and Oliva) seem to not be able to get the hang of including the original message when they reply to me. I will get an email that says "Great!" and I have no idea what is great :) I must admit, Joanna is getting a bit better!

Karen,

I am multi-lingual with all this computer stuff - PC/MAC AOL/Outlook. To include the original message from AOL when replying there is a preference you can set so that it is included.

On the top of your screen it says

File - Edit - Mail - Community - Services

Drop the menu down under mail until you see "Mail Settings" The second to the last choice has a box that says "Reply to Messages" and click your mouse in the radio button that says "Original Text". You will always have your email returned with the senders original message to you

I use my AOL e-mail sometimes and I must confess that I don't know how to reference what was in the original e-mail to me.

Kathy,

I tried following the steps you detail above but I don't see "reply to messages" or the button that says "original text". What version of AOL is that? Thanks,

Kathy, what is Chapura? I guess it's time for me to try Outlook.

I'm so glad we have computer guru's like Karen and Kathy on this board.

Donna - Chapura is a program that syncs your Palm information with Outlook. It's included with your Palm these days (used not to be)

Maria,

I am using AOL 9.0 Optimized. What version are you running and I can give you directions for that version.

Because I work about 50% training people on popular accounting software, I do a lot of computer training outside of the accounting realm.
Software is such a funny item - even in the same version, you can have things in different menus or screens so some of it is trial and error!

Kathy,

I have 9.0 optimized too!!?? Why can't I see the button you're talking about?

I click on mail at the top bar and then on mail settings? When I do that I don't see any box that says "Reply to messages". It's wierd that I wouldn't have it if we have the same version. Later I'm going to check in my daughter's computer.

Thanks,

When Ken looked last night our virus blocker had over 8000 virus emails. Nothing is coming through to our machines all being caught on our server that blocks them but that was in one day. It is mostly from whatever world cruiser turned their machine back on. I sent out as nice an email as I could saying that someone I booked had a machine that was doing this mass mailing of virus emails. I hope whoever it is figures it out and gets it fixed eventually. Thank goodness for the server Ken has blocking these things.

Thanks Kathy!

That was so nice of you but it seems for some reason my AOL version doesn't offer that option :(

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I ran the microsoft software and the panda virus and found two viruses and two spy ware.
I'm still having a problem though. Every time I go to ANY travel related site, I get redirected to vipfares.com Any suggestions for disabling that?
