I agree with Dan and Marcie, 7 day cruises are just too short! We're doing a couple 28 day cruises next year to try and get in shape for a really long one--maybe a WC (we'll have to see if the energy and the money hold out). Mrs Moose, if the rudeness of some of the passengers on your cruise had anything to do with age, perhaps the following is the reason why:

Life Explained at last:

One day, God created the dog and said: "Sit all day by the door and bark at
anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of
twenty years."
The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years
and I'll give you back the other ten?"

So that is why the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy

For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family.

And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Peggy, I think it was not an age thing, actually the seniors were the nice frienly polite ones.
Not a bark or a complaint from any of the seniors or older folks that I encountered. (no offense intended to anyone on age discription)

Just catching up was gone for long weekend - Mrs. Moose your trip sounds so wonderful - oh well a few snags but greater picture a wonderful trip - I always concentrate on the positives - sorry you ran into such rude bores - I have yet to meet one cruising but guess it could happen on any cruise - sounds like you got a hefty dose - I have met difficult people but take it as a challenge to win them over - nothing wrong with enjoying your hubbies company alone for dinner - we, too, lead busy stressful lives but love interacting with others for a long fun filled (lots of laughs) evening in Compass Rose - different strokes and that's ok too!!!

Just noticed it. That's so cute ( and true)!

I'll have to chime in here for occasional solitude. While we really enjoy interacting with others (ala MINT), on our cruise to Bermuda recently we simply chose to have an US vacation.

Not that we were trying to be antisocial, but with all that has occurred over the past few months, we felt we just needed to 'reconnect' and relax. However, dinners still seemed to be a long affair as we drank :) and ate quite a bit.

We dined alone every night although we talked to a number of older couples at various gatherings. Would we do this again? Under similar circumstances maybe, but not on a cruise where we aleady knew numerous people (like MINT).

Hope you had a wonderful time on your long weekend away. thank you, yes, we had a wonderful time.
I didn't let those people get to me, and I know I wasn't signled out, I saw rudeness happen to others and one lady told me what had happened to her in one of the lounges (by fellow PAX), she was obviously so upset over the incident she said she was having a meeting with a Radisson employee on the ship about it. She obviously was a frequent Radisson cruiser and she seemed to be a very nice lady but very distraught over the incident and from what I gathered Radisson was trying very hard to calm her down.

I too focused only on the positives and in no way did I let them spoil my trip.

One other thought, Jean. Definitely look into next year's Navigator trips to Bermuda. We did that last year and loved it. You spend a good bit of time ashore.

Reading your stories of some of the people you encountered reminded me of my one funny "RSSC dinner guest" story. After six of us (three couples) were seated and began chatting, one of the women started her end of the conversation by telling us all that she really dislikes cruise vacations, they are not "intellectual" enough for her. I don't think any of the rest of us had the first clue how to respond. It was a long night. :)

But definitely think about Bermuda - it was a lovely trip. Todd and I really enjoy cruising. I often feel, though, that I have just enough time in a port to decide if I'd like to make a return trip. In Bermuda, you'll have two days in Hamilton and another in St. George. It was delightful.

Kathleen, what "next year's Navigator trips to Bermuda"? Next year they won't have any of the trips that interest us most: the Navigator trips to Bermuda, top of the world (what we'd like best!), and Canada/New England. The ship will be in Europe all summer.

Unfortunately, the Navigator will not be doing Bermuda or Canada next year. I think the loss of the Diamond has caused some priority shifts.

Bermuda is a cruise I would consider. I've been there but hubby hasn't, and I believe the stop in Charleston S.C. a place I've also briefly visited years ago but hubby would love to see.

I'll have to see if Radisson is going and give it a thought for sure, especially if RT NY (no flying involved so a big plus)
