Hi, All
Traveled in '05 on Voyager from Monte to Rome (in mid September) and are booked on Voyager in '07 (October 20) Venice to Rome. The weather was perfect in Sep't. How about late Oct. in Venice, Greek Isles, Sicily, Sorrento, etc.? Too cold or rainy for sunbathing??? Any advice relative to previous experience? Thanks!

I guess it's somewhat of a risk at that time of year. We did the Med in very late October a few years ago on the Voyager. Seas were so rough we had to skip Livorno :( and if I remember correctly our Monte Carlo port ended up docking in Villefranche. Good part was that the ports were much less crowded

Welcome to Luxury Cruise Talk.
I went to Italy last year the first two weeks of November. We had wonderful sunny weather all the way from Sorrento to Venice with one morning of light sprinkles in Rome. Temps in the 60's and 70's. The tour before ours had rain 5 or 6 days of the two weeks. Never can tell.

Hi stregadrea, I cruised from Venice to Rome in mid October 2003. Venice was cool and drizzly and rainy in Sorrento. The rest of the ports were cool to warm. You just can't speculate but pack a little bit of everything. Just in case.

Thank You, Everyone!
I guess it's just "the luck of the draw"! We had beautiful weather on our Sep't./'05 trip, but the week before was horrible according to stay-through passengers. Would appreciate feedback from this Oct. Med travelers.

Stregadrea - we were very probably on that same Monte Carlo to Rome cruise with you, it was Sept 10-17 and I agree the weather couldn't have been better. However, we were on the sailing before, Dover to Monte Carlo, and as far as we were concerned the weather again couldn't have been better, we did have a sort or rainy day in Lisbon and light rain in Cadiz, but nothing that kept us from doing anything. There were only about 36 passengers that did Dover to Monte Carlo and then stayed on to Rome and I don't recall any of them saying the weather was horrible. Interesting.
Anyway, I have had clients sail that time of year and the reports are often mixed on the weather, guess its just like anywhere, as you said somewhat "luck of the draw". Good luck, hope its perfect weather for you.

We are doing Monte Carlo to Funchal and then the transatlantic in Nov of 2007 - now that should be interesting weather wise!

We were also on the Sept 10th Voyager cruise from Monte Carlo to Rome last year and we thought the weather was perfect. We spent a few days in Paris before the cruise and it was cool and rainy, so you can never tell...

This is my first post. Wish I had known before about website. It would have been nice to look forward to meeting people with whom I'd corresponded. Unless it's a last minute get-away, the next trip will be in Oct. '07 on the Voyager from Venice to Rome. We spent a few days in Rome on our last post-cruise, and intend to do so again. Stayed at Intercontinental atop Spanish Steps, but this time would like hotel near Via Veneto. Any suggestions? Thanks to everyone for your replies.

We stayed at the Westin Excelsior on Via Veneto also last October, Was wonderful and very good hotel to use some Starpoints, will save you big $$$$$$$, service was excellent, and usually you can get an upgrade too.

Andrea - we stayed thru RSSC at the Bernini Bristol and it was wonderful. I have clients who did it on their own, and they too thought it was wonderful. Cross the street and you are on Via Veneto, and the concierge there recommended and made us a dinner reservation at a restaurant literally across the street and we were treated like royalty! Old hotel, that has been upgraded to modern times and they have a wonderful rooftop bar for drinks and wonderful views, especially of St. Peters.

We sailed the first of October, 2004 and did Barcelona, Villefranche, Livorno, Rome, Naples, and Malta.

You can't ever predict the weather, but ours was not good. We missed Villefranche due to high winds (couldn't offload the tenders) and had to skip the South of France all-together. The next day we had to anchor at La Spezia and tender in instead of being able to dock in Livorno. We made Rome the next day and had perfect weather, but hit a storm that night as we headed for Naples, that had things crashing onboard the ship. When we reached Naples we couldn't get into the harbor, because a ship that got damaged in the storm was blocking the entrance.

I was later told that Mid-Sept till the end of November was their stormy season and the weather was more iffy that time of year in the Med.

For a hotel in Rome, we booked the Intercontinental Hotel at the Spanish Steps on Priceline. We knew it was the only 5 star hotel that they offered, so we pretty much knew ahead of time what we were bidding on.
