We just received this from a friend:-
Friday evening received a phone call from Cunard saying they had overbooked the leg from New York to Los Angeles on the QE2 - if we would release our booking they would offer us a three week cruise from L.A. to Sydney - FREE departing Jan 23rd. It took almost a minute to say "yes please". Since then I've been frantically cancelling airline and hotel reservations - now am working on a return from Australia.
That a nicer deal that we even received many years ago when Sitmar oversold a 1 week Carib. cruise and gave us a 2 week Alaska cruise in a top suite in exchange.
Has anyone had this experience on RSSC?

Well, the truth is, I've never heard of an RSSC ship overselling. They did take out a bunch of people on the Voyager for a dry run when it was new - gratis. A few of them post here.
Maybe we'll have that chance when the next ship is announced. :ch:

OH WOW! I have never heard of a deal like that!! A full refund and a discount on another cruise is the largest amount of compenstation I have ever heard of! That is fantastic!! :app:
However, the only cancellations I have heard about on RSSC are dry-dock and charter situations.

I'll tell you about an RSSC experience which has cemented us to this organization irrespective of offers of autographed photos!
We have had a tradition of taking our 4 sons and wives on a trip in alternate years - a group of 10 - in 2002 we were booked on Mariner from Barcelona to Rome. All air had been purchased independently with non-refundable tickets - hotel reservations made - baby sitting arranged for etc. Two weeks before departure, we were told that the cruise was cancelled - that Mariner was going into dry dock because of required repairs as a result of damage. Panic! To make a long story short - there was an offer of a future cruise with significant discounts - not practical for us. However, RSSC made us completely whole with refunds for cruise and air - even reimbursed us for the fee for redeposit of miles! RSSC had no obligation to refund our air. Then, they suggested That Silversea had a Barcelona to Rome departure 2 days later. After a flurry of further revisions, we had a great cruise on Silversea. Rssc's reaction has made us loyal customers - it will take more than a botched tier program to drive us away.
