Do RSSC ships (Nav!) offer "behind the scenes" type tours for guests. I have a mild obsession with how things work. Engine room, galley, etc. I'd guess the bridge is out, right?

You can sign up for galley tours.

Bridge is always open while at sea.

Robert - one that might interest Paul - if he takes the Cordon Bleu cooking class, there is usually a galley tour. We got to see everything including where they keep the caviar under lock and key. It was fascinating.

On the Paul Gauguin we signed up on wednesday for a 4:00 galley tour on friday. that was neat.
We signed up at the business desk.
Since 911 they do not allow other tours. (At least that is what we were told).

Engine room will never happen nor the crew area. Usually just the galley tour which will be offered on all cruises.

Ok, bridge at sea. Guess cruising the St Lawrence river qualifies as a sea day so I just go ask the purser. I can't imagine that I could just walk in. Galley tour - watch for it on the daily sheet. Engine room/crew area off limits, understandable.

I posed the cooking school idea but I do not think there is one on our sailing. He looked insulted anyway. LOL! Then I got the lecture on Cordon Bleu. Paul is a NECI (New England Culinary Institute) snob. I'm forever hearing how Emeril spoke at his graduation. and yada yada yada - more white noise. If he ever reads these boards I am so busted! :eek:

I loved the class, but then again, I'm 2 levels below amatuer in the cooking department!

I'm sure Paul will enjoy the galley tour and it seems that it's offered for all passengers so he can go for it.

I'm the anti-chef...If the cuisine is ex-animate (notice how I never specified formerly alive) for over 15 seconds, I will eat eat. :D

I'm a little hazy on this, but I believe open bridge hours were listed in Passages when we were on the Navigator to Bermuda, as was a specific time for the galley tour. If I'm wrong about open bridge, it's always worth asking, which more than likely will get you a visit.

On six Radisson cruises from Feb. '02 till July' 03, we were told that bridge tours were cancelled due to security concerns. Then on the Diamond in July '03, it was pretty much "open bridge" (as well as open bar) most of the time.

What I am confused about is, does this indicate a shift if Radisson policy as to the bridge, or is this just something that is done on the Diamond only?

Well, if we could do open bar on the open bridge (for guests only, of course) then we would really have something!

I have been trying to get to Engine room on just about every cruise I have been on, with no success. People I work with are often there, as our Company's products are used on many ships - but there are many reasons they will, as Ngaire said, wil never allow it.

Our our January 2004 Mariner cruise, we signed up for a morning bridge tour and it was cancelled 3 times due to rough seas or foggy weather! Late one afternoon, we received a call that they were waiting for us to join the bridge tour. We had not checked our messages on voice mail. Alan rushed up to take the tour. I was getting ready for dinner and missed it.

Also, our traveling companions took a navigational course one morning which was located on the bridge.

But, the bridge was not "open" while at sea. We were required to sign up for the bridge tour.

Then sign up I will. I have to see something!!

Robert, you'll love it. Both the men in our group were enthralled with all that equipment!

On Voyager New Years, bridge was open every sea day. For VOF, we also went to the bridge a couple of times. It helped that one of our shipmates was flirting with the Staff Captain for the entire cruise. :D

HMMM now which beautiful lady could that have been I wonder???
