Fed-ex just arrived with my silver box on the eve of my 78th. b-day.!! We leave for Rome on Sunday and staying at de ville International thanks to CC board member cruisinsince 75.
This is the replacement cruise cancelled after a false health alarm.
The weather forecast shows the seventies and sunny as opposed to the fifties and rain on the cancelled one. So we are doubly lucky.
I will send reports via karens.
One question for my friends Dolebludger and Marc.
I prefer T-shirts when excursioning which I wear at breakfasts in the terrace. Never eat in the cabin except on departure days. RSSC never bother, but how about Silversea ? Will i have to walk the plank ?
I am looking forward to the Cinque Terre. We stay in Portovenere from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. So after touring all of the villages I have restaurant advice from board members for a very lively evening.
We will be at Sorrento on Sat.May 7th. Having been there twice we will just enjoy the town. Ship stays until 11 p.m. so we hope to meet again with Gennaro from Sorrentolimo. He and his wife will be our guest for drinks, or even dinner if he has time.
Again, we will have a lively restaurant. Hope to dance that crazy tarrantella (or whatever it's called.)
THEE MANHOLE COVER.!! Can't miss that. 9 a.m EST is a good time for my friends and family , especially the grandkids to watch us act silly !!
Should be about 3 p.m. Italy time. i will advise Karen, while on board.
Isn't this board great ? Made so with such wonderful members. Thank you all for the advice.

Maybe Silversea delivers their cruise documents in a silver box? Sounds most dramatic, if true...

Edit to add - oh, yeah, have a great cruise!

Neville, I am so excited for you...especially knowing we're going to be going to a lot of the same places, at the same time. We'll be in the Cinque Terre on the same day! Things have gotten kinda crazy with my plans for the day -- I've kinda become a tour guide for several of the folks on my roll-call, so I'm unsure of our schedule, and don't know which village I'll be in when. But I've seen your picture...imagine if we encounter each other! You never know...could happen! :) I'll be looking for you.

Have a fantastic trip! And I hope you have great weather...cuz if you do, then I will too. :D

LeeAnne, You can e-mail me to the ship. I start from Riomaggiore at about 9 a.m. along Via DellMore to Manarola. Train to Corniglia. Train to Vernazza. Boat or train to Monterosso. Boat back to Rio.
Dinner at A Pie De ma. or Ripa al Sole. Ship sails for Portofino at 11 p.m. I will be on my own while Han. takes the boat there and back.
Look for a red T-shirt with "Canada" on it !

Neville, have a great trip and Happy Birthday!!! Keep us posted. We leave a week Friday for Chicago and then on to Rome on Sunday, but will check try to check in on Saturday. That is too funny that you and LeeAnne might be run into each other. We embark the day that she disembarks in Rome. We were even thinking about staying at the castle that she was going to before we got that deal at the Intercontinental.

For those that were wondering about the silver box. It is a silver clad box (about the size of a shoe box and not real silver. Darn!) with the embossed Silversea logo on the outside that the cruise documents come in. When opened you find on top that there are two leather luggage tags with the titanium finished logo on them. Under those you find your personalized print out of your itinerary along with emergency phone numbers, personalized email addresses, etc that you leave with family or friends so that you can be contacted in case of emergencies, along with your leather folder containing your cruise documents, and a detailed brochure on your available ship excursions. Really classy. We had a party with our friends when ours came and did the doc dance together. This is their first Silversea cruise and she and her sister were so excited that they even took pictures of the box and the contents.

Well, it's nice to know that there are others who are at least as excited as I am! ;) This might even put them OVER me in terms of topping out as the most excited cruiser ever! :D :D :D LOL!
Don, we'll wave at your ship as we depart, knowing you're hopping on and about to have a fabulous time.

Neville, I'm going to try to catch the 9:00 train from Santa Margherita Ligure into Riomaggiore, which should get me there at 9:50. So I'll be a little behind you. I'll be taking the Via del'Amore as well, along with a few others from my group, and after a coffee break in Manarola, I'll hit the trails on to the other villages. I'll be looking for you in Manarola! I'll be wearing tan hiking shorts and a small maroon backpack. I look like my avatar picture, except my hair's a little longer now. Wouldn't that be hilarious if we see each other? :)

Oh, and a big ol' HAPPY BIRTHDAY from me too!

Neviboy,

You can wear a tee shirt with shorts to breakfast and lunch on Silversea and not feel one bit uncomfortable! You can sit inside or outside for breakfast or lunch.
