Alan and I will be going to Italy end of Aug. returning mid-Sept, flying Business Class on Lufthansa from and back to LAX and connecting both ways through Frankfurt. Lufthansa's new aircraft - 747-8 looks marvelous! Any chance our planes will be switched to the new aircraft at that time? Right now it shows the older aircraft for our flights. Hoping we are able to give the new planes a try! Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Denise,
According to Lufthansa, they will receive their first 747 8 in early June 2012. If all is on schedule - - you may well experience the new aircraft.

Hi Cynthia,
Thanks for your reply. I had also read that the first new aircraft will "roll out" in early June. Keeping fingers crossed that we get to experience it at least on one flight..however, two would be lovely!
I am hoping Peter chimes in. He's the Star Alliance Guru.

According to the Lufthansa website:
The new jumbo will enter service on the Frankfurt - Washington route and flights can now be booked. By late summer, 747-8 flights will be offered to Delhi, Bangalore, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Depends on what they mean by late summer.

When a "new" aircraft (or just configuration) is being rolled out, it really is a matter of chance whether or not you get the new plane even if it is scheduled since they may be rotated out. The new Lufthansa Business seats are a big improvement over the existing ones though. Good luck!!!

I guess it will be the luck of the draw. Hoping at least one of our flights is on the new configuration. We had been quite pleased with Lufthansa's Business Class. Seat improvement would make it an even better experience.
