It sure seems like Alaska excursions are going to cost a lot more $$$$$ than on other cruise itineraries. You have to fly in a airplane, helicopter, charter a boat which all are lots of $$$$$$. Is there anything to do that is in the $50 to $80 dollar range? Just curious.

Yes. You and Jan can sit on the deck with Marsha and George and have some cosmos! In fact, first round is on us.
Seriously, what about activities like kayaking or city tours?

Jim, The Alaska port board at cc is a good source of info for cutting costs. Anything outside of the towns is gonna be more expensive since there are no roads to speak of, hence helicopters & planes.
Looking at the possible excursions I'm guessing that these would fall into your price range:
Ketchikan: Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show Totem & Town Tour Ketchikan- Alaska's First City Highlights Ketchikan by Horse Drawn Trolley
Juneau: Historic Juneau Gold Mine Tour Mendenhall Glacier & Salmon Hatchery Mendenhall Glacier & Juneau Highlights Mount Roberts Tramway Healer's Guide to the Alaska Rainforest (?)
You can also take the MGT to Mendenhall Glacier for about $15/20 R/T. And the Mt Roberts Tramway can be done on your own. I think there are hiking trails around both areas. Whale Watching would be around 100-125 I think.
Sitka: Russian America, Raptor Center & Russian Dancers Historic Sitka & Nature Walk
Skagway: Historic Skagway - Gardens, Tea,& Klondike Experience Skagway by Streetcar Ghosts & Goodtime Girls Historic Walking Tour
The White Pass Train will probably be about $90 & up depending on which itinerary you take.
There are some hiking and/or bike tours but I have no idea what they might cost.

The reason why Alaskan excursions cost so much (not to make excuses for it) is that the tourist season is so short - only 4-5 months to get tourist dollars so prices are jacked up somewhat. Also, distances are big so transportation costs are bigger as well.

Wow Vickie. That is a lot of information. You are right Masaki. Transportation would make costs higher. I guess I was just wondering what excursions were availble that might be cheaper in case someone would prefer it. MarnaLou that is a wonderful idea. We could do our on excursion around the ship from one bar to the next. :D

Jim, we'll call it the a-cosmo-in-every-bar tour. We'd better end up in one of the lounges with a lot of couches!!
