Hi all, we are booked on the PG this June and I have just read David & Betty's Voyager review where they indicated smoking was allowed in the restaurants in certain sections. Is the PG the same? I would assume their restaurants are much smaller and therefore, having a "smoking section" would inevitably mean the entire restaurant would be affected by the wafts of smoke? :(

We're non-smokers and while we don't mind people smoking in the bar areas (that's a given, pretty much), we don't like to "eat" smoke with our dinner! I guess we've been spoiled by Silversea, who allows smoking only outdoors in the Terrace restaurant, at the pool grille (outdoors), and indoors in only designated areas of the bar & casino.

We also have been enjoying a smoke-free Florida for the past couple of years (at least, anywhere food is served is smoke-free). We're spoiled!!!

I am a non smoker, I am very sensitive to smoke.

I do not recall smoking in the dining room on the PG and even on Mariner and Navigator, the smoking section was in the back of the dining rooms and so small as to not bother me. Only in the Casino did I have a problem when the smoker next to me put his lit cigarette in the ashtray between us while he played his cards and of course that would be an expected smoking venue on board.

Aboard PG Franco will set up a table or two near the entry to the main dining room for smokers. It's well separated from the main part of the dining area and should not bother you. In the gourmet dining room there is no smoking and you can only smoke outside on the veranda portion for breakfast and lunch.

We're on the PG now and we haven't noticed anyone smoking in the dining rooms.

I don't recall that they allowed smoking in their restaurants... or perhaps no one smoked when we were in there.. but I have to agree..don't like to eat smoke either. So this smoking in restaurants on Radisson is disturbing news to me if true?
I like that Silverseas has the same smoking "mentality" as Oceania does..

Once more, the ventilation on the two larger ships is such that you'll never know anybody might be smoking, unless you happen to be seated right next to a smoking table. I don't know about Navigator, but I'll be finding that out in just over a month.

You will not be "eating smoke". If you get seated where you don't want to be, you will be moved immediately.

Pam: I never saw more than 3 or 4 people tucked way back in a corner of CR sort of behind plants - it's much ado about nothing -

Pam, you are right. On one of the ships, can't remember which one now, we were seated too near that table of discretely located smokers (I am very allergic to cig smoke). We immediately found our waiter (maybe even the headwaiter) and politely asked to be moved. They moved us to a different side of the dining room. From then on, we knew which section to avoid. No big deal.

Pam; The smoking area in Compass Rose aboard Navigator is forward on the port side, which is different than Mariner and Voyager, those being port side aft.

What about cigar smokers? Do they get to smoke in the restaurants too?

No, Claudia, they have a cigar room; the smoking rules are pretty clear in the literature.

Doug, thanks, I quit over three years ago but I'm always ready for more information about just about anything.

No cigars Claudia. They're smoked in the Connoisseur Club ONLY. As Joanna said this entire topic is "much ado about nothing".

Cigar smoking is really obnoxious - I always get a mental pix of a portly older gentleman puffing puffing - (sorry Lawrence) - off to the CC for all of you!!!

Joan/all,

I add this as a not so "portly" and not so "older" gentelmen, but have goals of achieving such a description with time and gravity...

On the PG, you can also smoke cigars in the open deck area of the La Palette. Of course, my own balcony worked very well as well...at least whenever allowed by Tracey.

The CC definately was the best place to experience fine Cuban or Dominican tobacco...but alas the word is that the CC will be made into suites and the CC will be moved to a smaller area on the ship.

For what it's worth,

Jan

I imagine that the CC on the PG might have another spot carved out for it. The Cigar club on the other ships, is quite nice for those who need a smoking lounge.

Andi: I think that is how 99% of the Radisson cruisers feel who do not smoke - as I said earlier, the whole thing was much ado about nothing -

What we heard is that the current Connoisseur Club is going to be sliced and diced into five cabins with balconies with a transverse hall outside. Then they are going to make the casino (on deck 5) smaller and carve out a spot there for a new CC.

We also heard that some of the officers' quarters are going to be converted to passenger cabins but I don't know how many. It looks like capacity is going to be bumped up to maybe about 350?
