I have quotes from Spiros and George for the day we will dock in Athens. Which one would you choose?

How important is it to have a licensed guide? These two are not licensed.

Shirley, post your question on the RSSC and Silversea forums too in case they don't wander over to Oceania.

I think it depends if you want a knowledgeable driver, or someone who can accompany you to archaeological sites and act as a guide during those visits. I guess that depends on your touring style, and where you intend to go.

Jan, I concur. I posted a response to Shirley's post on another thread, as follows:

We had arranged touring with George many months prior to our Athens visit. George, however, was unavailable during our visit to Athens. He arranged for his son, Dennis, to oversee our touring. Our touring with Dennis was pretty dismal and we ran into numerous problems with Dennis' attitude. I brought the matters to George's attention, after we returned home and George rebated some of our money.

Because we had such an unfortunate experience with Dennis in George's absence, you may want to consider Spiros. I don't think you need a licensed guide. Just one who is warm, inviting, cooperative, informative and genuinely attempts to make your stay in Athens all it should be and what you expect out of your touring experience.

I hope you enjoy your cruise, Shirley!

Hi,

I'm new to this board and wanted to comment on Spiros. We used him in August for a delightful two days of touring. He was charming and informative. We had him pick us up at the airport before our cruise and for the touring after we docked again in Athens. He had books which we could use to sightsee at the different sites and museums. The only problem with Spiros is his Mercedes, which is only comfortable for three passengers. We would definitely use him again if we go back to Athens with our granddaughter.

Hi Claudia,

Thanks for the welcome. Hope you are doing okay.

Who did you use at greecetaxi? We have friends going on the 10/10/06 Nautica sailing and I wanted to pass the info on to them.

Sheila :)
