What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving? Cooking? Having someone cook? Traveling?

We're making our annual trip to Mexico. We've done it every year but two since we were married. Turkey tacos and a Margarita are a wonderful thing! :D

Lauri, that sounds good to me! We will be doing our annual over the river and through the woods (really!) to our friends cabin. It is very traditional!

Well, we are starting an "early" Thanksgiving by flying to Vegas on Saturday and coming home Monday. Our only plan is to have brunch at Bally's on Sunday the famous Sterling Brunch. We are not gamblers so we will just go and do whatever we feel like at the time. We are staying at Mandalay Bay.

Then, we fly to Charlotte, NC to visit our daughter and hubby for the weekend. She isn't much of a cook, so we are having the Cracker Barrel do our cooking and will eat at their house! :)

I have done Thanksgiving every year since 1990 with anywhere from 6-14 guests. This year there will be 8 of us, well 9 counting 5 month old Nicholas. I'm going to try a few new side dishes this year...pretty daring for me!

Oh, I LOVE that Sterling Brunch!!! Eat some crab claws and caviar for me!

The hordes will descend here about noon on Thursday, and leave by midnight (they tend to forget to go home). I'll cook some, others will bring stuff, and Cracker Barrel will fill in the blanks. Nobody does country-style green beans like CB, and why should I mash the potatoes when they already did?

We'll head up to Kansas next Tuesday, back Saturday. It will be good to see family, and we will spend time with my 93-year-old mother, so there's really no other option for us during her latter years. In years past we used to have large groups here at our house -- 12-15 family members all staying with us for the weekend -- but now we need to do the traveling. At least that means someone else cooks!

Mom and I are flying to Atlanta on Wednesday to spend Thanksgiving with my brother, SIL and niece. Poor thing, niece Jenn is going in for gall bladder surgery tomorrow. Hopefully she'll be recovered for all the good eats. We fly home on Monday to begin making mom's famous fruitcake cookies. She blessed them weekly with spirits, so they are just right by Christmas time. cheer

Everyone have safe travels and enjoy your time with your loved ones.

Sounds like some wonderful plans you all have! We are flying back to Wisconsin (well, flying to Minneapolis and then driving on up to see our families in WI). I sure hope there isn't any snow on the roads - we haven't driven in snow in 10 years!!!

Greg will be going on the whitetail deer hunt, as always. Always holding out hope for da 12-pointer, ya know.

We are going over to the New Sanno Hotel; the US Navy's hotel here in Tokyo. They have a wonderful buffet for Thanksgiving (we are also going Christmas Day). Next Thursday is also some Japanese holiday so it will be a day off for many.

Ah, Marc, Thanksgiving, Japanese style!

We are staying home and have been invited to our friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm requested to bring the sweet potatoes (took them last year and my southern dish was a big hit).

Originally, we were going to Atlanta and I was going to have the chance to meet Beth and Another Kathy. I felt the need to visit my dad (and mom) sooner than that so we made our Thanksgiving visit to them in early November. We had some real quality time together. I sure won't miss traveling through Atlanta's airport on Thanksgiving weekend :) .

We are staying home. We will have dinner with our daughter and family, who live near by. She and I will share the cooking, and trust me, her contributions will, no doubt, outshine mine!!!

In a word, our plan, for the day, is to EAT too much!!

Safe trips, to all you who are traveling!!
cheer

We are staying home, having my 94 year old Dad. He will come over on Tuesday and I will cook him a birthday dinner, then the three of us will have TG weekend here. Will probably start getting out Christmas stuff on Friday and Saturday.

Roadtrip to Denver, where both Daughters will be. At my former mother in law's. Really nice of her to invite me.

I can never pass up a chance when both former kids are in the same place at the same time.

Lauri, I thought we were coming to your house for dinner! LOL

We are staying here for turkey day. Our daughter won't make it down for Thanksgiving, but will be here for Christmas, so it will be just us and our son. We are non-traditionalists. Last year, I think we did a prime-rib. This Thursday it is supposed to get up to 79 degrees here in Big D, so it will probably be a good day to be outside, so I was thinking some nice thick juicy T-Bones thrown on the grill and then topped off with a mushroom, shallot, and merlot sauce. Then maybe a side of grilled jumbo asparagus spears drenched in olive oil, lightly seasoned, with just a dab of creamed bleu cheese. Maybe open that bottle of Penny Hill Cabernet/Merlot/Shiraz blend. Then for dessert, low carb cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory...

...or scrap the whole thing and hop on a flight to either Vegas or California, grab a cab to In-N-Out Burger for a Double Double, Fries, and a Chocolate Shake! Then while we are there, we might as well head on over to Trader Joes for some mighty fine Two Buck Chuck! cheer

Ok, to coin an old phrase, everyone can have a pity party for me. I have no relatives geographically near to me, so I have not plans. I am also in rehearsal for a show, so I do not have time to drive any distance. Poor me.

Only kidding, I have plenty of things to do around here (like learn my lines),and start getting out Christmas decorations, so I will be very busy.

We are leaving Madrid today after a month of traveling. We had a great time but are looking forward to being with family (for a few days!) Our son is coming in from Washington & we are going to my sister's in Winnetka, IL, about 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. She will have a large group of 20. She is a terrible cook but we will have a grand time together. Right now, I am craving anything not drenched in olive oil.

Happy Thannksgiving to all & Safe Journeys.

Jackie

Both our daughters and our future son-in-law will be spending the long weekend with us. We will be driving across to the east coast of Florida to join my two brothers with their families, and my parents. My brother Steve, the Chef, will be doing the honors, but we all help preparing things. Yum!

Just having the in-laws over with our daughter and her boyfriend. The kids are spending the night. Sunday, my best friend, who some of you will get to meet on ROAR2, will be coming for several days.

I'm sure this will be a wonderful Thanksgiving for Marc and Arlene. They will make new friends and experience a sentiment for the US that you really can't feel when you're here. It is weird celebrating a holiday in a country where it isn't recognized.

Just got the word.
Jan B and I will walk two doors down to
her brother's home.
6 of them. Jan's Dad, Sister in laws parents,
and two of us. That is eleven unless some of the college kids bring someone home with them.
