I think the Amazing Race post might be the first non cruise related topic at CC that I have ever seen! See, we started a trend :)

Karen and all:
I shall be tapping the program. I know it was on last year at 9 p.m.! Have to get up early in the morning. I shall comment on it tomorrow night after I watch it. I wish I could watch it at work. NOT!! Jan

it seems that a repeat of Tuesday's show on Saturday night is going to be a regular thing. So if the VCR doesn't work, or your mind doesn't work and you forget, you can always catch it then. Maggie

Whew...I was able to stay awake for the whole thing. This 10:00 pm slot is going to wear me out!
I'll hold any information until all time zones and Tivo users have seen the episode, but it was great as usual, and I won't miss the losers!

The show seemed to FLY by (except for the lengthy commercial interludes) ... don't know if it was action or intrigue, or just shorter than the premiere episode. Another good job of effectively mixing sprint events and catch-up opportunities.

Luke....the show was 30 minutes shorter than the premier, but they didn't have to introduce all the racers...they are already pretty unforgettable!
It is amazing how often what looks like a good choice can suddenly become the wrong one!
It was a great episode. I'm not sure about the brothers, but I really hate the whining from some of the players!

I won't give away too much. I just finish the tape. I really love the dogs on the show! I actually saw my cocker spaniel. I know it is a travel show back to that. Surprise surprise to the end. I know who I am backing now. It is not who came in 2nd. I agree Margo, the whining is when I fast forward! After reading the article from the losers from last week, the start was dangerous with all the knees that got done in. I don't think I would trust those bowling ladies. Once everyone has watched, let us know. Jan

I'm done. Does anybody know exactly what the twins are complaining about? I'm not sure if I really understand ... (and it's hard to be sympathetic with all the sniping).

Gee, I hope that we can talk about this now.
Masaki - I think the twins are complaining about the run for the taxi between them and Chip & Kim. I rewatched the tape and it looks like Chip and Kami reached the cab simutaineously but Kami actually got a door open and sat down in the cab first. Chip felt that they got there dead even and neither of them would budge. Finally another cab arrived and Chip got out of the first one and got in the second cab with Kim while the other twin got in the first cab. Then when Chip got his driver to pass the other cab the twins really started complaining.
The only pair that I got really irritated with was a pair I had previously liked - the ones that told Army Dad and Daughter that they would have to exchange their money. I guess some would say all is fair in this game to get ahead, but outright lies don't go over well with me.

Okay, Kathy, I guess it is time to discuss as you said. I will go ahead and put the names in for you now. I was ticked off at the bowling ladies reagarding the money issue also! The father and daughter team is doing really well, I am surprised as bad of a start that they did have. The twins, I agree, they both got there at the same time, I guess not all 4 of them could fit into the cab? Or was that a rule one cab per team...
Where do we go next week guys?? I know look at the web site!
For some reason this group is not as great as last years, or is it just me?? I know they edit things around to make people like certain things, etc. What is your all opinion on the selection for this season? I still think Karen would have been much more lively to watch then a couple of the "whinners" in this group this year.
People were talking about at the office and that was there complant regarding the people are not as great as last year. I thought I would mention it. And Karen your name was brought up in the office, that you tried to get on! I told them they would have loved you on the episodes! Jan

HAHAAHAHAHAHAAHA! Jan, you are so funny, mentioning me at the office. I hate to tell you but I bet I would be doing a lot of whining as well! I would hope I wouldn't but you never know :)
I think I will be glad when they change locations as I am getting a little tired of South America. I think St. Petersburg is next!

I agree - no really dynamic personalities this year. However, after a few weeks and less people, we'll probably get to know them much better and really be annoyed at a few of them. They have to have some jerks to make it interesting!
I thought the roulette wheel bit in the first week was very dull. That was supposed to be the one that held them up and it seemed to work out to be a better choice, which didn't make a lot of sense.
There are a couple teams, mainly the young couples, that haven't had much air time it seems to me so can't tell really what they are like.

Masaki and I are definitely hooked. Too bad we didn't know about this last year. Eagerly awaiting next week's episode.
I agree with Kathy. I know everyone wants to win but to outright lie to other teams is not cool. And there is lot of whining, but such is the nature of these reality shows.

Kathy - hmmmm ... but it doesn't seem very fair for them to complain about Chip & Kim considering it looks as though they got there at the same time. This game definitely doesn't reward wallflowers! :)
I was also surprised by the roulette wheel - I figured it was going to slow people down a little more than it did.

Amanda, there have been real classic moments in seasons past. Hopefully you will get to see all the past seasons as I heard that Fox is working on a new all reality tv channel :)
I know I would love to rewatch some of previous episodes! For the diehard TAR watchers, don't you miss Gary and Dave, Oswald and Danny and Teri and Ian? :)

This is my first season watching -it's very entertaining! I've only dabbled in a couple "reality" shows before (American Idol, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy). It's getting a season pass on my TIVO. I get a kick out of the cousins - just loved it when Mirna and Charla were trying to find the disco and Mirna noticed the "lady of the evening" waiting for a bus and thought she looked like she was dressed up to go to a dsico. Charla knew what was up. LOL! If you miss an episode, or just want laugh out loud, I recommend the recaps on the Television without Pity website. http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com Leslie

Another question for you guys about the money they're given at the start of each leg? Does the money carry over if there's any left over? Have people actually not had enough in seasons past? Thanks in advance!

No it doesn't carry over. They have to decide how to spend it, ie: taxi or bus... I don't recall anyone getting in any serious touble and running out. Their airfare is paid and not included in what they receive.

I think I am giving up on Amazing Race. The short one's use of her size for pity is growing old. There is no one besides the father daughtet and maybe the older couple worth rooting for. Maybe I am just jaded by too many trying to claim more than their fifteen minutes of fame.

Well, I don't need to watch the show, they just announced it on the Early Show at 6:45 in DC area for people to watch the Amazing Race on the Early Show of who got off the show last night. And I just check, we had lightening around, and what got recorded is blue. No cable during that time. No show for me. I will have to go to the CBS board and read it. Jan

My favorite part last night was when the twins arrived at the check point and the host said "that was some entrance you made". The looks on their faces when they learned about the easy way to get there that everyone else took was priceless. I hope for Jan's sake that this clip is on the CBS site.

Yes, if you are interested in hearing more from the "losers" they always bring them to NY for the Early Show on Wednesday mornings. They're interviewed in the 8 o'clock hour. It's fun because you hear more about why they lost and things that went on that didn't make the show. Maggie

I can't keep track of their names, but the cousins, when the small one used her size at the airport, by saying she had to get to a doctor, I personally don't think that is right. I know it's just a game, but it has made me want to see them come in last, and say bye, bye....... :( Sandy

My question is, where is the fast forward? The dad and daughter should have definitely used it, if it still exists. They knew how far behind they were going to be.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that you have to encounter a "fast forward" thingie to be able to use it. You cannot just decide to use it whenever you want to.
Doug
PS: I agree that that Doctor story at the airport was unsportsman-like. Perhaps that is why I enjoyed the electric fence as much as I did.

Doug, i'm with you 100%. This is ridiculous. They should be eliminated for violating the rules. Of course, it sure was hilarious when her cousin was complaining that she wasn't "presentable" for Phil when they reached the checkpoint.

Thanks Karen, I will tape it again. This weekend it is supposed to be pretty. No T-storms.
As Marc says and I agree with him: It sounds like the cousins are using someone's size for getting what they want. I was wishing that the father and daughter would have lasted longer. I am now cheering on the twins. For now. But, I shall see after Sat. night.
Maggie, that is how I found out who lost, when they came on at 6:45 on the local Washington, DC station to say who was coming on!!! They should say, "cover your ears, if you don't want to know!"

I thought there was a fast forward on every episode?
And Marc, I have seen the racers behave in worse ways! I was more offended by the mean name the two pizza brothers yelled at the twins. (at least I think it was the twins)

Karen, very true.....they need to go too. I guess I am saying that it is hard to watch the show when you have few teams that you feel you can root for. If your team is eliminated early, it is hard to stay with it with so many "worthless" individuals. I will try for another week.

I think the brothers were making a snide comment to Charla and Myrna, the cousins.
Is there really a fast forward for each episode? they only showed it on the first one. So much to learn still.
We were also rooting for Marsha and her dad. The end was really touching...my eyes were tearing up.
