Any one familiar with Slingbox? Here is their site . I don't know if I am really understanding how it works. It looks like you can "forward" any tv signal anywhere in the world. Is anyone using it? What headaches are there for the "host?" If it is useful, we might try to set it up at one of our parents houses.

thanks,

Marc,

It looks interesting. Here are a couple links I found on avsforum. One is a nice write up in the NY Times and the other is a legnthy discusion from about a year ago. I'm sure there are other threads on there.

Marc,

There are problems with air waves from satellites and it is important to understand where the signal comes from. For example, I understand that SKY from Britain cannot be captured in the US.

I understand how difficult it is with no US TV. I'm sure, if technically possible, that there is some English TV underground.

In Switzerland, through the English ex-pat society (not US), I found a guy named "Dave the Dish" who hooked me into SKY. This was illegal under Swiss Law, but it occurs everywhere in Europe. It was quite expensive for the hookup ($500?), but worth it. You had to have an address of someone in Britain and then use this address to sign up your box. I paid the usual British monthly fee. Contact the English ex-pat group. Hope this helps.

Sky PerfecTV or J-com cable may do it for you.

Looks amazing!

This jumped out at me:

(Unless you've bought a cable splitter, changing what's on the TV screen from the road also changes it at home, which could alarm anyone who happens to be watching TV in person at the time.)

Thanks for the links. I think I just need to get my folks to install an extra cable box with dvr and we will be set. Then, I will get a video out from computer to DLP TV so don't have to always watch on computer here. Of course, after every power outage, I will need to get them to turn on cable box again. This sounds better than the other options.
