Fantastic, We ate with Sandy and Denny last night and we are all looking forward to seeing you.
Now at Kwandwe
Quite a hassle getting here as usual. Commercial flight from JNB to Port Elizabeth. Then a 2 1/2 hour drive. But worth it.
Staying at Fish River Lodge in the hills. Lots of steps and a distance to the rooms. All that said everyone is having a great time. Driving in we saw about eight ostrich, oryx, giraffe, and of course impala. First game drive was short as we had just arrived but we still saw Black Rhino with a baby and cheetah.
This morning was quite amazing. Saw a pride of lions with two young cubs. Great sighting, lions moving around, cubs being cubs, suckling, some growling. Also mother and adolescent rhino heading straight for the lions. Not sure if there would be interaction of not but the rhino moved off. Good sighting of the rhino.
Then the highlight. The ranger stopped and with binoculars looked at the area a cheetah with two very young cubs had been seen. He spotted them and we drove to that area. The cheetahs moved to the road and walked right by our vehicle. Only seen cheetah cubs once before and these cubs were much younger. Still very black with no definitive spots. They really stared at the vehicle. Then the cubs ran down the road playing. Truly a magic moment. Cant wait to see Ken’s pictures.
On the way back we found a different group of lions with the remains of a warthog kill. This was a good sighting with one adolescent carrying the head in its mouth.
Food terrific, great filet last night and really quality scones for breakfast this morning. I am laying on my bed looking at a mountain range with a very relaxed Nyala bull to the side of our front door. Never been that close to a male Nyala before just stunning.
