Marcie: Just a head's up on the foreign credit card usage fee... I just got a notice from Bank of America that the fee (on their cards) will now apply to charges made in US Dollars IF those charges are made in a foreign country. No FX exposure as your charge would be in USD, but they will charge the fee. I would fully expect other card companies to follow in short order. As always, it really pays to be aware of these sneaky fees. CapitalOne still has no fees. It is the main card I use when I'm outside the USA.
