We're on the President's cruise from FLL to Southampton (I think it's nicknamed VIKING cruise on LCT) May 8 to May 31, 2009. We've spent enough time in London but have never been to Southampton before. Is it worth spending a few days there post cruise or should we just head to Heathrow to fly home?
What are others doing? Any suggestions are appreciated!
Marcie

Hi Marcie, We have taken a couple of cruises from Southampton and stayed 2/3 days pre cruise and really enjoyed it. It is a very busy port town and most people only see the cargo and industrial areas around the dock as they arrive/leave for their cruise. You can do day trips from here to some lovely places.... Isle of Wight. Winchester. Portsmouth. Bath, if you want to venture a bit further. The South Coast of England at that time of the year is lovely.
David.

While in transit a few years ago, we took a tour to Salsbury and Stonehenge. It was delightful, beautiful country, we had a very nice lunch in a charming riverwalk cafe in Salsbury, and if you haven't seen Stonehenge, it's well worth the trip. We weren't able to get in to see the cathedral in Salsbury, it was being renovated or something - scaffolds all around it, but that was five years ago, maybe six, so it must be done by now. Lots to see in that part of England I think.
[size=8]Too Many To List - 416 days & counting on Radisson/Regent, and 150+ days on 8 other lines, with one cruise booked next month on the Mariner, Miami to Honolulu 22 days

I agree there is some lovely touring around that area. The Isle of Wight is very pretty, and then coast line to the west, Dorset, Devon, etc., up into Somerset has all kinds of appeal. Winchester is also nearby. Rent a car for a few days and roam! Castles, cathedrals, ruins, beautiful coastlines, nice little hotels, pubs, lovely countryside--you get to choose!
