Greg - Thanks for posting the link. James Lileks is very entertaining. It's fun to read a review of a Regent cruise by a long-time professional writer/humorist. Lileks is a journalist, former radio talk show host, and blogger, according to his main website, http://lileks.com/bleat/ . I certainly hope that he continues to post about the rest of the cruise and that his poor wife and daughter suffer no more dreadful bouts of mal de mer.

Ah, Charlene, I truly wish that I was as accomplished a writer as James Lileks is. Sadly, I am not. In all honesty, however, I did not find his last installment nearly as entertaining as the earlier ones (maybe it was the rude descriptions of old fat guys??!!). Good wishes and happy pats on the head to the two sweet pooches, Ike & Bones. Cheers, Fred
PS - You still owe me a reply to my private email about the Vancouver Olympics and why Celine Dion didn't sing.

I agree that some of his descriptions are (shall we say) bordering on "nasty," but I think his blog is pretty entertaining.

This is funny and well-written from the blog:
"This was a standard cabin. Walk-in closet, big bathroom with a shower and a tub. But no toilet! Odd. No, it had one, complete with a sign warning you not to put anything into it except, well, you know. The sign had an illustration that showed someone throwing a bottle into the toilet. In a way, I understood; on this vessel, you were king, and if you wanted to throw a champagne bottle into the toilet then BY GUM you could do so, and one of the servants would appear from nowhere and knock it to shards with a small gold hammer, wrap the glass in a flannel blanket and back out, bowing, apologizing."
What this reminds me of is an incident that my sister reported back to me on a Panama Canal cruise she and her husband took on the Mariner.
A fly managed to get into their room. So Brad, my sister's husband, called housekeeping because he was wanted to borrow a fly-swatter or similar tool. The person on the other end of the phone was horrified that there would be an insect of any sort inside a guest's room.
Within 5 minutes, there was a knock at Clara and Brad's room door. In walked in 6, yup SIX, staff members carrying a diverse armamentarium of fly catching equipment: a rolled-up newspaper, a rolled up magazine, a cup (I guess to trap the fly???), a paper towel, and a bottle of Windex (presumably to clean up the fly's remains once it was hunted down). Note the absence of an actual fly-swatter! The sixth staff member carried nothing but was probably there to provide moral support in the forthcoming battle against the winged invader.
Brad and Clara were so surprised and confused that they watched the 6 staff members scramble around the room for 5 minutes in pursuit of the fly. After he recovered from the surprise, Brad told the staff members that he'd just keep the sliding door open so the fly could leave on its own. The crew were insistent that they catch the fly - this resulted in another 10 minutes of futile fly-chasing until my sister was finally able to convince the crew members that it really was not a big deal and that they shouldn't worry about it. As soon as the defeated fly hunters departed, the fly exited the room of its own volition.
To this day, the fly incident makes for funny storytelling, but it also demonstrates that Regent and its crew go to extraordinary lengths to provide world-class customer service.

Lawrence, your fly story had me laughing out loud. I can just picture the host of fly-catchers descending on the room. I doubt they have fly-swatters on the ship.
